My areas of focus also include working with divorce recovery, co-parenting, and blending of families.
We may not be able to control our circumstances, but we can control what we do with our circumstances. Sometimes we are handed or inherit a difficult lot in life, and the idea of navigating this lot can leave us feeling hopeless and powerless. I firmly believe we are not without hope because we will always have the power to choose how we respond to our adverse circumstances. I have a deep sense of compassion and intrigue for the human soul, a yearning to discover an individual’s story, and a desire to build a warm, empathic, safe, and authentic alliance with my clients.

Whether it’s divorce, going to college, midlife transition, empty nesters, or the struggles inherent in the life of a teenager, these are times when we need to redefine ourselves or define ourselves for the first time.
What we identify as the problems in our lives are typically symptoms of something deeper that needs attention. If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, mood instability, stress, trauma, or personal relationships, it always comes back to the relationship you have with yourself. Our emotions provide information that helps us gain a better understanding of who we are, and tune us into those things that are out of balance in our lives. For me, therapy is a healing journey intended to increase awareness, restore balance, and guide individuals toward the optimum version of who they can be.

Trauma is a normal life experience often associated with major life transitions: death, divorce, retirement, blending families.
Connection is the most basic human need. Our survival is dependent on whether or not we have someone we can turn to when we are most vulnerable. We experience disconnection as: death, divorce, conflict, betrayal, loneliness. I can guide you on your journey of securing satisfying and nurturing relationships or strengthening and rebuilding existing relationships . I have experience working with sexual & intimacy issues, sex addiction, pornography and affair recovery. I can help you repair and reconnect with whomever matters the most in your life or find and create new lasting, healthy relationships. I help individuals and couples find greater happiness improve their lives.

From this perspective, I specialize in life transitions (including divorce and other losses), relationship and identity concerns, women's issues, as well as stress management with individual clients (no couples).
I believe that "mental wellness" is a holistic perspective that includes mind, body, and spirit, when a person can feel satisfaction and enjoy life regardless of their current situation. Through psychotherapy I support the process of exploration, growth, and change so that a person can use their strengths and resources to challenge life situations or challenges. I draw from multiple theoretical orientations and view therapy as a collaboration where the client is actively engaged in the process in healing and becoming whole. I believe that internal change engenders external change.

I know first hand how difficult major life changes can be for my clients, as I myself have experienced massive shifts such as faith transitions, divorce, career changes, shifts in identity, parenthood etc.
I specialize in religious trauma and life transitions; so individuals and families undergoing major changes in relation to religion, family structure, and navigating identity are my jam! I love working with women and men who are recovering from the negative effects of the patriarchy and other harmful systems that affect us all, often without us even knowing it. I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ population as well; my office is a safe space for every relationship structure. I love helping my clients to meet their goals of reframing the lives they have, realigning and defining their values, and integrating all the parts of themselves,

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
