I am currently accepting new clients in Arizona & Washington (telehealth only.) It takes courage to share your story, and to accept help from someone. In counseling, I believe that everyone has the ability to face difficult situations, overcome challenges and learn new skills. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that mental and emotional well-being are integral to overall health, and that therapy can be a powerful tool for achieving this balance. I take a holistic and trauma-informed approach to treating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, marital and family conflict, pregnancy and postpartum adjustment, and parenting challenges.

I know first hand how hard it can be to reach out for help, when the world tells us the goal is to "have it all together." Therapy can be uncomfortable and difficult, but that is how change happens. I like to make the process of change less challenging for people by making therapy about making a connection with someone, and providing a safe, supportive environment. Healing is a chance to look at the story we are living in and rewrite the parts that don't fit anymore. Our lives are busy and chaotic and somewhere in all of that, we need to find time to build better versions of ourselves and healthy relationships with others.

We strive to meet people where they are and help identify where their potential could take them. Our focus is on increasing awareness and understanding of self. We work with people to draw on and build upon their existing strengths. We work with you to establish a plan to help get you from where you are to where to where you want to be. We use the theoretical orientation of humanistic-existentialism as the center to our approach to quality clinical care.

You deserve support. That's my central focus in practice, many of us minimize our own distress by saying "other people have it worse" or "I should be grateful" without actually acknowledging that you are worth the time, energy, and investment. Trust me, even if you tell yourself it's not that bad, it won't change until you change it.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
