Living in a complex world can be overwhelming. Stressful emotions can become too much to handle without goal-directed intervention. Counseling is an emotional process where one improves while releasing identified baggage and managing current circumstances with healthy inner dialogue. It's important to choose a counselor you can relate to. The counseling process works when directed toward your objectives. I help adult individuals navigate stress, anger, anxiety, trauma & mood fluctuations. Most of my counseling is done through telehealth.

I believe that people have the innate power to positively change the course of their lives with a supportive environment. When you are in a challenging situation, you naturally feel ambivalence about change since it requires letting go of the familiar for something unknown. If you're looking for extra support and guidance to get through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you.

My mission is to assist women, with an emphasis on women within the BIPOC community in de-stigmatizing mental health and making it safe to receive mental health treatment. We have been placed in undesirable roles, where we began to accept the false narrative and unrealistic expectations that we are to be all things, to all people within our lives. We take on many roles while fighting the societal stereotypes placed upon us. Through this, the greatest of all losses occurred…we lost ourselves. Together, I will assist you in cultivating a firmer foundation of self.

Have you ever wondered why you keep getting stuck in the same patterns and can't avoid getting hurt? Sometimes our good intentions don't pan out the way we intended. Whether those patterns include relationships with the "wrong" behavior, person, or thing, you are at a place to finally seek out those answers. Sometimes we know what we need to do, but don't understand why. Finding the closure we need is especially important in recovery to help us live our most authentic, true selves. You are not alone in this feeling and there are many reasons why we get stuck in these cycles.

The Agave Center for Behavioral Health is a community-based agency that strives to provide quality strengths-based behavioral health services to children, adults, and families. Adverse life experiences can have a significant impact on the overall health and wellness of the individual, family system, and the community. It is our belief that, similar to the helix found in agave plants, people have innate strength and resilience that are fundamental in overcoming these adversities. It is our goal to help those we serve discover their own unique internal resources to process and overcome the adversities of the past.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
