My life work as a behavior coach, case manager, and as a therapist, has provided me with opportunities to increase my awareness of the variety of factors that affect an individual’s mental wellness.
I am a very down to earth individual and believe that when we change our thinking we can change our behaviors. When we change our behaviors, we can change our lives for the better. I use my extensive training and education in various counseling modalities to help those seeking a better life experience. As a therapist, I strive to create positive change in others’ lives, but first and foremost, aiding in the realization that such a change is in fact, possible. I am deeply invested in the growth and happiness of those that I am privileged to serve.

Hey, brave soul, congrats on taking the first step to feel happier! My name is Rocky, and I love to help people with a variety of issues, especially depression, anxiety, trauma, spiritual exploration, gender & queer identity, sexuality (including polyamory, kink, nonmonogamy), neurodivergence, and OCD. I also help couples to better their relationships, which entails learning how to be vulnerable and how to connect and communicate. This includes getting cozy talkin' about sex! Listen, I get it. Finding a therapist can feel scary, but don't worry! I am 100% transparent and a real hu man being, just like you.

I will listen to you without judgment and help you find your own solutions. You don't want someone who is going to jump in with advice before hearing all that you have to say and understanding, as much as possible, how you feel. You need someone who is willing to explore alternatives and solutions with you in a calm respectful manner leaving you with the final decision. It's your life. You have to live it. Why let someone else make the decisions for you when all you really need is someone willing to listen, hear, and understand?

My years of clinical practice have helped me to understand the value of an individual. Most people have the resources they need to manage the challenges they have, but they sometimes struggle to see the resources that are available to them. I use a solution focused, non judgmental, approach to help individuals resolve major life issues like addiction, depression, anxiety, and family and relational conflict. Individuals and couples can find affective attunement with themselves, their spouse, and their children, as they learn to strengthen who they are as individuals and become clearer about their own emotional regulation.

What we identify as the problems in our lives are typically symptoms of something deeper that needs attention. If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, mood instability, stress, trauma, or personal relationships, it always comes back to the relationship you have with yourself. Our emotions provide information that helps us gain a better understanding of who we are, and tune us into those things that are out of balance in our lives. For me, therapy is a healing journey intended to increase awareness, restore balance, and guide individuals toward the optimum version of who they can be.

My first priority is to offer a professional, safe, and comfortable environment to explore whatever concerns you may be having and to develop a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship from which to provide therapy. As a former military psychologist (2001-2006), I had very broad and diverse exposure to many mental health conditions. I quickly learned to implement a variety of approaches to address the unique needs of my clients. My aim is to provide treatment tailored specifically to each client. No two people are exactly alike and their therapy shouldn't be either. Above all, I want to help you create lasting change and improvement.

I don't simply aim to help my clients manage their symptoms - my goal is to empower them to take control of their lives and live the life they truly want.
I know firsthand the transformative power of therapy. As a young adult, I struggled with anxiety and depression, but with the help of a skilled therapist, I was able to overcome my challenges and find greater meaning and purpose in life. Now, as a licensed counselor and certified clinical trauma specialist, I'm committed to helping others achieve the same kind of breakthroughs. Using evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Internal Family Systems and trauma informed care, I help my clients overcome depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma and relationship issues.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
