I have a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Avila University and a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia with training in Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Gottman Method Couple's Therapy & Play Therapy. Beyond my education, I have experience working with children ages 3 and up, adolescents, and adults with a variety of mental health issues, including severe and persistent mental illnesses, addictions, trauma, abuse, neglect, couples and relationship issues, grief and loss, and mood/anxiety disorders. I use a multidisciplinary approach based on the individual and their specific need and therefore use a variety of therapeutic models.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience in working with a wide range of clientele and presenting concerns. I started my career working at a local non-profit agency with children ages 0-18 and their families, including biological, blended, foster, and adoptive. I have also worked in an inpatient hospital setting treating adolescents ages 11-17 in crisis and facing a variety of mental health-related challenges. In private practice, I work with children, teens, adults and couples to strengthen relationships and heal emotional wounds. I am also EMDR trained to help you process and heal trauma.

My ideal client is motivated to change, but struggling to find the right path for them. I specialize in life transitions. I work best with an individual that wants to improve their ability to have healthy relationships. This might mean they need to work on figuring out their own needs first. I like to develop a connection and help people learn to change their cognitive filters to help shift their emotional well-being. My clients tell me they feel cared about and appreciate my sense of humor. Some have said they feel like they are talking to a friend that is objective and only has their best interest at heart.

The majority of my career has been spent with adults with a multitude of presenting issues such as developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, PTSD, self-esteem and self-identity issues as well as trauma, substance abuse and other process addictions. I believe the connections we make are critical for positive change. My main focus in therapy is to meet clients where they are with acceptance and non-judgement.

I have a substantial background in hospital/medical social work assisting patients and their families as they go through illnesses or injuries. I have also worked in hospice and helped patients of all ages and their families through the end-of-life process and bereavement.

Amber has worked with people experiencing grief/loss, depression, anxiety, interpersonal relations, relationship/ life stressors, co-occurring diagnosis and many more. She utilizes a holistic approach when working with clients. Amber has been a board-certified social worker for five years, and in the field of social work over 10. She is currently available to provide teletherapy for children, youth and adults.
