Seeking help is a huge step. Healing starts to take place as soon as someone feels heard. I strive to make children, teens, and adults feel heard, seen, and valued. I provide in-person and virtual individual therapy as well as family therapy. I am passionate about helping people with trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges in children, improving parenting strategies, and gender and sexual identity challenges.

I am a licensed independent substance abuse counselor with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners which ensures you are truly getting addiction counseling. I am in good standing with NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals. I have been working with individuals and families with mental health and addiction issues for over nine years. I specialize in helping first responders and offer support groups for them.

We all have our own story that needs to be told and we need to "feel" heard without judgment. Children just as adults, want to tell their story and feel & know someone is really listening. At BHCS we pride ourselves on meeting the client where they are while providing a safe and comfortable place to begin healing. We all have our rough patches in life and as Murphy's Law would have it, "life" did not come with an instruction book on how to navigate through the rough storms. Children, the same, just less experience and less knowledge; children do not act out for no reason; they just do not know how to express themselves yet.

I've been in the business for over 17 years and have a passion for providing competent counseling services within a Biblical framework. While I have a desire to integrate theories/strategies of psychology with Christian faith, I allow the client to determine what concentration of faith, if any, they prefer in the session. This crazy and challenging time we find ourselves in may seem overwhelming and too much at times. Life is not often fair and comes complete with complex issues. I employ psychological assessments and depending on the situation different clinical interventions in assisting my clients. I have found success with clients through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy along with dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, internal family systems, and person-centered approaches.

It feels like we are roommates. We don't have a lot to say to one another but when we do, our conversations turn into arguments. I look across the room and I don't even recognize the spouse that used to make my heart skip a beat years ago. My desperate attempts for connection come out as either criticism or anger. But the more I do that, the more he/she withdraws from me. I feel helpless and alone but craving the love of my person. "How did we grow apart?" is a thought that often enters my mind. I work with individuals, specializing in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use. I have enjoyed working with clients of especially vulnerable populations such as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (including ASD), those who identify as LGBTQ+, those with histories of trauma, and other minoritized populations. I believe that therapy is most successful when clients are empowered to set their own priorities. I also believe that secure attachment and feeling safe are essential to the healing process.

My therapeutic style can best be described as warm, straight forward, and humorous. I have a strong belief that my clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. I view that my job as a therapist is to assist my clients in finding their own meaning, purpose, and direction in life. To do this, I challenge my clients to live their lives authentically and according to their own moral compass. I have a non-judgmental, person-centered therapeutic approach. I work with my clients on taming that inner critic, which I like to refer to as their gremlin, and ever so politely showing it the door.
