With CBT, narrative therapy, and compassionate insight, I will guide you through the aftermath of loss.
Your world has turned upside down, and it feels impossible to imagine a world that is right-side up without your loved one. People around you want you to be okay, but they don’t know how to take away the sadness, anger, and pain of loss that weighs you down. They expect you to pick yourself up and just get over it. If they could see the void you have inside, they would know how hard it is just to get up and get out of bed each day. You are devastated; every wave of emotion that washes over you prevents you from finding solid ground. “This is not how it was supposed to be,” you think. Now, you must figure out how to move forward.

I often work with adults, teenagers and couples who struggle with self-esteem, trauma, grief, substance use, depression, and anxiety.
Healing is messy, and it’s also beautiful! You may feel stuck in a cycle that’s painful and no longer serves you, or you have a desire to look further inward. No matter the reason that brought you, I am glad you are here. It is 100% okay to ask for help, no matter what people have told you. Challenges are inevitable in life and are often a cue to action. When challenges go unresolved or unaddressed, they may get in the way of how you feel about yourself. The good news is there are many things you can learn and unlearn about yourself and the world you live in. I will support you through that learning and healing process.

Types of trauma can include loss of a loved one, abusive relationships, neglect, emotional pain, unwanted sexual experiences, ongoing stressful situations, major life events, chronic pain, medical issues, miscarriage and stillbirth, to name a few.
Therapy is about becoming more aware of who you are and how you influence your surroundings. Individuals come to therapy when the ways in which they are behaving, living, and acting in life are no longer working for them. Various circumstances can cause distress and require that we seek assistance to help adjust to something new. I believe that therapy is an opportunity to grow and change when we feel stuck, it is a creative outlet to find solutions to help live life more fully.

I have personal experience with and training to help others with grief-one of the hardest things a person can experience in this life.
Currently accepting new clients. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor who has education and experience in family life. Life transitions are often a place where it is easy to become stuck. I love the word “choose” because we have the ability to make more choices than it sometimes appears. Do you need help seeing the choices you can make to become unstuck, or to strengthen yourself and/or your relationships?

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
