Always angry? Frustrated? Feel anxious and do not seem able to stop worrying about everything and anything? Trauma in your past and find it difficult to talk about? Perhaps it’s time you talked with someone who is non-judgmental and can help you feel calm, more relaxed, less anxious. Maybe even sleep better. My ideal client is one who wants their life to change and is willing to work for that change. I am here to help you, but you are in the driver’s seat and will be in charge of your therapy. I do different forms of therapy including EMDR and Brainspotting. (Adolescents through the lifespan.)

Facing challenges is a natural part of life, but sometimes, situations can feel overwhelming. Feelings of hopelessness, self-doubt, anxiousness, and depression can seem out of our control. We may notice disruptive patterns and challenges in our relationships with ourselves and others but feel unsure of how to change them. Our past can haunt us, and we might wonder why we can't experience the happiness and hope others seem to have. Our present grief or fear of change can be debilitating. The truth is happiness and inner peace are achievable, yet we may require a little assistance to find our way. If you are struggling, I can help.

The word 'therapy' comes from the Greek word 'theraps' meaning, an attendant. The prefix 'psycho' comes from the Greek word 'psyche" meaning, soul or spirit. A good therapist attends or listens to the soul, spirit and innermost voice of the client or patient. Having worked in the mental health field over the past 50 years, I have learned and developed a variety of approaches to listen to and attend to that part of each individual that has the potential to bring about understanding and healing from the deep psyche within. Couples counseling involves teaching/coaching empathic listening skills, utilizing "Interactive Focusing" .

I have been a Psychologist for over 50 years, focused on holistic treatment of PTSD/trauma, chronic health issues and headaches / pain. I am mainly a Health Psychologist. I started my career with the US Air Force. I ran the most successful PTSD recovery program in the military (2008-15). In the PTSD Clinic, our results showed that PTSD recovery can be possible. I use Neurofeedback to relieve the headaches, memory problems and mental slowing from TBI events. I also do IME evaluations for Veterans. I rarely accept VA coverage (TriWest) and require a referral. I am a Medicare provider.

My approach uses Stages of Change, Somatic Experiencing, yoga psychology, EMDR, CBT, and learning to communicate with sub-personalities.
Do drugs and alcohol have a problem with you? Does it wreck havoc in one or more areas of your life? Do you "self-medicate" because you don't know how to deal with the pain that lives inside? Do you have childhood or other traumas you need to resolve? Are you anxious, stressed and have unhealthy habits to try to relax? Reaching out for help may be hard considering how society has stigmatized people who have addictive behavior. Did you know that treatment for Addiction can be easier than you thought? It can also be incredibly supportive, inspiring, and uplifting. Your life will drastically change when you take back control!

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
