When you find yourself needing a divorce, and as a couple, you want to end the relationship on your terms, you can turn to me for Divorce Mediation. Often clients possess the means to resolving issues and they just need a little help to arrive there. I offer sound solutions after problems are identified. Let me also serve as your independent mediator for child custody. Designed to assist an already overburdened court system it is the logical process to choose.

My ideal client is open-minded to different treatment modalities. Someone who may not know where to start with their therapy treatment needs support in taking the first steps. I often work with individuals who have experienced trauma or have had other significant life events that may have affected their mental health. I enjoy working with clients who need assistance identifying their emotions and creative coping skills to manage symptoms. I like helping clients identify triggers that may exacerbate their symptoms.

Does stress, worry or anxiety get to you? Do you need someone to talk with, but friends and family don’t seem to understand? Do you wish you could find somebody who will really listen? Maybe you haven’t been able to feel happiness in way too long, or your fears and worries are taking over your day-to-day life. Maybe your thoughts bother you or seem to control you, or you turn to alcohol or drugs to just get through the day. If some of this sounds familiar you should know that you are not alone, and that you can talk with somebody about these problems. When you are ready, we can work together to try to beat them.

We live in "interesting times," and my clients are looking for help as they navigate the ups-and-downs and unpredictability of life. Relationships, career paths, sexuality, family issues, work issues, change on all fronts, trauma and loss are some of the things that clients bring to talk about in their work with me. Some clients come with specific goals, and others come just to talk and figure things out.

I believe that there is a way to work with past trauma, current situations, and internal feelings to learn new strategies to help one live their best life. I became a licensed counselor in 2012. The spark for clinical work came in 2007 while working as a Case Manager at a Residential Treatment Center for teens in beautiful St George, Utah. I guess I was destined for the desert and never knew it. I’ve had two beautiful children since then— who are my world. I’ve worked in private practice, outpatient and inpatient at several phoenix hospitals, outpatient clinic, and a state prison. I offer mental health coaching in Arizona and mental health therapy in Utah.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
