I’m a counselor who works with adult clients with anxiety, OCD, and PTSD symptoms.
If life has felt more stressful and exhausting, know that you’re not alone. Many people are feeling disempowered, hopeless, overwhelmed, and have no idea how to pick themselves up every day and continue the basic tasks of living. Negative thoughts, feelings, and memories are natural parts of being a human being, but they don’t have to control your life or take away from the things that matter the most to you. I believe that having a space to explore your feelings in an open, non-judgmental environment can relieve some of the pressure and make it possible to invest time and effort into building a better life and a better world.

I am not able to accept any new patients. I work with adults and seniors and have training and/or significant experience in diagnosing and treating most issues and disorders with the exception of drug/alcohol abuse. I treat people with 'life issues', the psychological version of the flu and people with more serious or complicated problems such as severe OCD, bi polar, eating disorders, and trauma--psychological version of pneumonia....and everything in between. My goal is to help people identify their problem, decide upon treatment goal(s), decide treatment options, and work together to achieve their goals.

I continually improve my skills and clinical knowledge in treating PTSD, cPTSD, depression, anxiety, and OCD.
Helping people rekindle true connection to self and others is my underlying passion and a cornerstone of the healing experience. Many of my clients have experienced acute/chronic stressors or trauma (PTSD, cPTSD). They struggle with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, grief, relationship issues or just "I'm stuck". I work with each client to focus on what is most important to them in their healing, creating a true collaborative relationship in which they are honored as the expert on themselves. We create a safe environment in which we work together to resolve challenges and mental health concerns.

My particular areas of strength are treating anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, eating disorders, women's issues, body image & self-image struggles, and relationship/family problems.
I've been in the business for over 17 years and have a passion for providing competent counseling services within a Biblical framework. While I have a desire to integrate theories/strategies of psychology with Christian faith, I allow the client to determine what concentration of faith, if any, they prefer in the session. I would enjoy the chance to sit down and hear your story and offer feedback, wisdom & practical skills. I have a light-hearted & laid-back personality & enjoy supporting teenagers (11+), adults, families & couples through challenging times. Facing life's difficulties need not feel so burdensome or be braved alone.

Over the past 45 years, I've worked with hundreds of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, sexual issues, spiritual concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, parenting issues, PTSD, anger problems, low self esteem, grief, guilt, jealousy and self doubt.
I have been a therapist since 1978. I taught undergraduate and graduate Psychology courses at Ottawa University (11 years) and Rio Salado College (17 years).I specialize in OCD and obsessive sexual behaviors but have treated nearly every type of client and diagnosis over the past four decades. I'm told I'm personable and that people feel comfortable with me immediately. I'm a good nonjudgmental listener and I believe that counseling should be a deep but intriguing investigation - not a painful one.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
