My approach to therapy is with this simple phrase, “to let the pain out so healing can come in.” Deep-seated trauma, anxiety, and depression are very common, especially with the chaos of the last two years. I practice with my clients finding grace for themselves while cultivating a safe place for identifying needs, aiding in developing healthy boundaries, and addressing unresolved trauma. Throughout the process, I equip my clients with practical coping skills to help them in their day-to-day lives.

I believe counseling to be a work of the human heart; healing work, life-giving work, work that heals the soul and repairs trauma, past pain, and brokenness. I am happy to accompany clients on their journeys to assist them in making changes in their lives that will enable them to reach their fullest potential and to find deeper fulfillment and joy. I am honored to accompany clients on the journey of uncovering & healing past pain by challenging beliefs that hold them back from whole-heartedly accepting themselves, loving themselves and from taking ownership for their thoughts and behaviors.

I specialized initially in trauma for children that have been abused and translated those skills into adults (specifically veterans and first responders).
My ideal clients are looking for practical approaches, such as why changing some routines around could improve their mood, while also digging into how their past trauma could impact their relationships and productivity.

I'm trained in the most effective methods of working with trauma.
If you find yourself frequently feeling overwhelmed, struggling in your relationships or using alcohol, drugs, sex, food, exercise, pornography, or other types of behaviors to help deal with the highs or lows. If you look outside of yourself for validation or a sense of self, or the ways that you've learned how to deal with life are no longer working. It is possible to connect with yourself, experience your emotions in a healthy way, and feel intimate or balanced. Feeling more secure in yourself and the events of the past is achievable.

You've experienced something terrible in your life, and you cannot stop thinking about it. You can't sleep, and barely function throughout the day. Or maybe you function, but you're unhappy, stressed and anxious. Maybe you cover the pain with drugs, sex or alcohol. Trauma affects everyone- and everyone reacts in their own way. You want to be able to look forward to your day, your life and your relationships. If you've been through sexual trauma, infidelity, relational issues or have low self esteem, EMDR can help.

It is my belief that counseling is one of the most overlooked and underutilized tools to finding healing from life and gaining a clearer picture of our true selves. I specialized in trauma therapy because these are the deep wounds we try to ignore and hide from others.
I want to help you through your journey, to come walk with you through the darkness so you can find a reason to smile again. We all have our own story to tell. My story has had many storms, but I've come through my personal storms and I'm walking in the light, there are still showers now and again, but I have a good umbrella and a smile. I'd love to help.

I have training in several treatment modalities but specialize in Trauma, Motivational Interviewing, Grief and Bereavement, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Flash Technique and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
My passion for psychology started when I needed to understand myself at 27 years of age and my journey began. Through the years I continued to study; work with therapists and Ph.D,'s; heal items in my own life and received profound positive changes for my efforts. I decided to return to school and obtain my degree in the field that I love so I can help others on their journey. I have provided psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and seniors. I have worked with individuals who have health issues who need support. My approach is client centered, optimistic and strength based.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
