An intervention is not about how to control your loved one with a substance use or mental disorder; it is about learning how to let go of believing you can. A person enables for various reasons, often having little to do with someone suffering from a substance use or mental disorder. Most people understand that enabling a loved one with a mental disorder or to use substances often removes their ability to face the consequences, see the need for change, and advocate for their own care.
