I prefer to use my cognitive behavior therapy and attachment-based techniques in therapy most of the time.
Hello, I'm Rebecca Zabinski, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota. I am originally from New Mexico and met my husband in the United States Air Force. I am a woman veteran and have grown to love Minnesota and everything it has to offer. My approach to therapy is meeting people where they are at and coming up with some goals together so that there is a common focus between us. I have 3 boys and love animals. If I am not working, I am doing something outside with my kids, in the garden or with my dogs.

It's another day of the same thing, same unwanted negative self-talk, another day of what if's or what's next, and you hate the thought of the next day being a repeat yet the cycle continues anyways. Stuck. Burnt out. Drained in every sense of the word. It's gotten to be too much and you're sure you want more out of your life than this. I help individuals 16 and up who feel stuck in their unhelpful thinking patterns and are looking for a change. I also see individuals with trauma utilizing Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) with eye movements and limited talking to erase and replace distressful images and sensations.

Here you are inquiring about a space, about being seen, being heard, feeling understood, and accepted. THERAPY. A practice full of compassion, vulnerability, connection and growth. I believe right now in this present moment that there is trust and light within each of our hearts. I believe that our hearts become ignited as a therapeutic relationship and intentional practice grows, as we intertwine our energy, our words, our creativity, the therapeutic work that is filled with understanding, support, encouragement and knowledge that is what creates harmonizing growth, healing and wholeness within oneself.

I enjoy working with clients who are willing to broaden their perspective, to try new ways of doing things, and are willing to build on their own authenticity. I typically work with folks living with depression, anxiety, trauma and stressor related disorders, challenges adjusting to new life circumstances, and relationship issues. My favorite aspect of therapy is being able to offer individuals hope and a fresh perspective in areas of their lives where they have lost sight of their own strength, and do so through the power of the therapeutic relationship.

I enjoy working with female clients who possess a unique set of characteristics, challenges, and aspirations shaped by their profession and life experiences. Perhaps you frequently encounter high-stress situations and traumatic events, which can lead to emotional strain, burnout, and post-traumatic stress. Or, you encounter physical demands including irregular hours & physical exertion, that can lead to fatigue and health concerns. Balancing a demanding career with personal and family life can be particularly challenging. You are more susceptible to mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and stress.

Life's barriers sometimes get in the way of living life as abundantly as we would like. I know that it can be hard to seek help. I would be honored to come alongside you and see if we can find a way to overcome the barriers in life. Using a holistic approach, I will listen with empathy and together identify changes to be made and how to make those changes. Moreover, we will identify other important people in your life, including other health professionals with whom coordinating care will enrich your experience.

Feeling too needy in your relationship? Are you always feeling a little out of control in your relationship? Feeling scared, anxious, or confused by your partner’s behavior? I know exactly what you're feeling: the tightness in your chest, constantly feeling like you’re losing the one you love and care about, feeling pushed away, feeling like a crazy person, and feeling like you need security and reassurance NOW. These feelings can be consuming and terrifying, and I do not want you to suffer from them anymore. Holistic practices can reduce feelings of neediness, anxiety, and depression tremendously.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
