Do you struggle to be truly authentic or know yourself? There is freedom in taking off the masks you feel you need to wear to protect yourself, or who you believe others need you to be. Therapy involves change, a healing that brings your real self to life, but change isn't always easy. Therapy is an investment, and you aren’t investing your time and money to talk with a “friend.” If you're looking for that kind of therapist, that's not me. I have a direct and active approach to therapy. While being genuine and empathetic, I will confront and challenge the beliefs that keep you from living as your authentic self.

You are so incredibly valuable. You deserve a life free from fear, anxiety, and depression. But, like drops of water in a bucket, negative experiences have a way of building up over time. The inability to empty our bucket causes us to feel overwhelmed by our thoughts, emotions and the world around us. Right now, as you read this, I want you to imagine what it might feel like to find freedom and to put down the burdens you're carrying. Imagine what it might be like for your past to no longer control you or for your future to contain hope instead of dread. Come in, let's talk and let an experienced guide point you towards possibility.

Finding a therapist is hard, especially if you're a bit different from other folks. You struggle with the things you see on this site like anxiety and intrusive thoughts, yet you still worry about reaching out to someone. You know therapy is supposed to be a safe place, but you still can't help worrying about being judged because of your identity, spirituality, your past, or what you want to work on. Maybe you've tried therapy before and it just didn't work. You were validated but not challenged, or the therapist pushed their ideas on you. It just didn't work for you as a unique person. You need someone who also a bit different.

Seeking out professional help is a surreal experience that frequently is full of questions such as “Am I really here?” & “Is what’s going on honestly worth needing to talk to a stranger about it?” I have been there and I want to encourage you to take the time to go through the healing process.

Taking the first step toward a better life can be tough, and I get how overwhelming it feels. Starting therapy takes courage—I know this because I’ve walked that path myself. I've faced my own battles with anxiety, depression, and coping in ways that sometimes hurt my relationships and left me feeling alone. If any of this resonates with you, remember, you’re not alone, and I’m here to help you work through it. Let’s take that first step together. Call or email to set up an appointment whenever you’re ready. The character limit on psych today makes it hard to capture who I am as a person so please visit my website to learn more! :)

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
