I have experience working with adults and teens who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, domestic violence, intrusive thoughts, and phase of life issues.
Immediate availability in person and telehealth! Starting therapy can feel daunting. I commend you for taking this step and hope you know that you are not alone. No matter what therapist is best suited for your needs, I wish you the best on your journey of personal growth. To help you understand if I’m the right person to be your partner in that journey, a little about me: I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and French at Ohio Wesleyan University and then completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Toledo.

I often work with adults, teenagers and couples who struggle with self-esteem, trauma, grief, substance use, depression, and anxiety.
Healing is messy, and it’s also beautiful! You may feel stuck in a cycle that’s painful and no longer serves you, or you have a desire to look further inward. No matter the reason that brought you, I am glad you are here. It is 100% okay to ask for help, no matter what people have told you. Challenges are inevitable in life and are often a cue to action. When challenges go unresolved or unaddressed, they may get in the way of how you feel about yourself. The good news is there are many things you can learn and unlearn about yourself and the world you live in. I will support you through that learning and healing process.

Too often substance use is treated with a one size fits all approach.
Change is a process and not an event. Whether you interested in establishing a new relationship to substances, addressing relapse, or have been sober for a while and want to work on underlying issues, I welcome you. I believe that most often substance use is a symptom of underlying issues and people turn to unhealthy behaviors to manage. If these issues are not addressed a person will relapse. I specialize in co-occurring disorders including Trauma, Depression, Bi-polar Disorder, and Anxiety. I have over twenty five years of personal and professional experience in addiction recovery.

I have had success working with adolescents and adults in many areas including trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, communication, anger, self-esteem, and interpersonal issues.
As a therapist, I work to create an environment where my clients feel heard, accepted, and understood. I have a friendly demeanor and have always enjoyed helping people. I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship, through empathy, compassion, and mutual trust is key to helping individuals feel safe in order to work through sensitive issues. My aim is to work together with my clients to explore areas they want to address and then together develop a plan to improve their lives.

Are you and your partner struggling to communicate, finding that your conversations often end in misunderstandings or arguments? Are you feeling overrun by your emotions and losing control of your inner peace? Or perhaps you or your family has been negatively impacted by substance use and you're seeking compassionate support to navigate through these challenges. I firmly believe in the power of resilience and the human capacity for healing no matter the circumstances. While life experiences can be overwhelming, remember, it is possible to reclaim your life and find inner peace.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
