I specialize in working with children, teens and adults who find themselves struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, loss, trauma, family and social stressors, among other determined or identified issues.
We all struggle in life, at one point or another. The question is how we navigate through that struggle. This is also why we can all use some guidance. I work collaboratively with clients to help them cope with these struggles, meet new goals and live an authentic, meaningful life. The foundation of that life is built on their self-determined values and strengths. I also challenge my clients to grow, seek out their strengths in all aspects of their life and offer them the emotional support and tools necessary to make deep and lasting positive changes.

All of these experiences have helped Tonya develop a passion for helping children, adolescents, and their families overcome challenges and help them succeed.
In her high school senior English class Tonya was given an assignment to research colleges and majors. Through this assignment she learned about the field of social work and realized that she could combine her love of children and helping others into a career. This led Tonya on the road to getting her Social Work degree. She graduated with her AA degree in Social Work and then attended Arizona State University where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Social Work.

Calming music and sounds of a gentle water feature as you enter create a low-stress environment decreasing anxiety, especially for children.
As a psychologist, I find it most important to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment, where children, adolescents and adults feel comfortable and understood. I often work closely with parents and children, teaching "tools" that help families function better. These include respectful communication, anger management, and how to deal with excess anxiety or depression. I believe the past affects our present, and our thoughts affect our feelings and actions. I provide the skills that allow clients of any age to confidently move forward to a happier, healthier place.

I am passionate about working with children and families to find the most effective tools to strengthen relationships, gain relief from current stressors, build comfort with big emotions, and help children find acceptance for who they are.
Does your child have big emotions, anger, worries, or behaviors that you are struggling to understand? Has your child been through something difficult or just isn’t acting like themselves? If your child is expressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or unexplained difficulties, a play-based model allows a safe environment to explore their feelings and needs affecting healthy functioning. I specialize in using a genuine, non-judgmental, supportive approach to helping children and families develop new ways of thinking and feeling, as well as learning new sets of skills for making choices and having healthier relationships.

Hello. My hope as your therapist is to create a safe and comfortable place for children, teens, adults and families to learn new skills to communicate and manage their emotions and free themselves of the burdens of the past they carry and the negative thought and behavioral cycles that trap them in a life that does not allow them to reach their goals and experience the maximum amount of joy in their lives.

After you have completed all forms, you will be able to schedule a parents-only intake meeting to discuss concerns and create a treatment plan for your child.
I enjoy helping children make positive changes in their lives. I provide child therapy services for children who are experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges. These challenges include emotional outbursts; uncooperative and aggressive behaviors; difficulty managing emotions including anger, anxiety, and sadness; and decreased self-confidence. Life experiences can be difficult for children to understand and navigate. My treatment approach combines play therapy interventions and structured problem solving to help children learn coping strategies and make positive changes.

My goal is to provide a light in the storm and guide you or your child through adversity.
Resilience is adversity reframed. This statement encompasses the perspective that everyone experiences difficult times or situations, but through the storm, we can feel peace and work towards growth. Therefore, it is important that we can lean on our support systems to heal and grow from those experiences. I would be honored to be part of you or your child's journey through the storm. My hope is to help clients feel safe and accepted so they can cope with difficulties they may be struggling with.

I received my BSW from Arizona State University in 2011 and MSW from Arizona State University in 2018, with an emphasis on children, youth, and families.
I am an associate therapist at The Center for Compassion, where we provide mindful care for painful times. I believe that with the proper support, a person can begin to rebuild, adjust, and make meaning out of their experiences and losses, all while continuing to honor and feel connected to their loved one along the way. I am passionate about helping others navigate through grief, loss, trauma, and life’s many challenges. I have experience in several different social work settings; including schools, hospice, and grief support. These experiences have given me the skills to support those enduring many different life challenges.

I use these approaches to help children work through painful experiences using their primary language: Play! I am certified in EMDR using this for both children and adults to process past traumatic experiences and decrease the responses to the reminders of these negative experiences.
Many of my clients have emotional responses to things that don't always make sense to them. They may have had hard things happen in the past that continue to come up. I work with adults and children of all ages to work through past trauma, anxiety and other difficult emotions. I strive to make therapy a safe place where you can work towards your goals for yourself and/or your child. In my 10 years as a Mental Health Therapist I have worked with a variety of issues including: anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, self-harm, shame, family conflict, and parenting issues. I work with children ages 5-18 and adults of all ages.

I have experience working with individuals, adolescents, children, and families.
Hi! I’m Tanya, and I and a part of the Help and Hope Counseling team. I am here to listen. Having been on my own personal journey towards healing, from a young age I was curious about how to help people live their best lives. I love to meet people where they are in their journey and walk alongside them to where they want to be. Deep down, we are all looking for connection and understanding. As we move through life, we inevitably encounter situations and events that make us feel isolated and alone. My purpose is to cultivate a therapeutic experience in-person or via telehealth that is collaborative, comfortable, and offers hope.

Child Therapists
Child psychologists in Arizona provide mental health therapy to children and are experts in child development.

Every comprehensive review of therapy with children shows that all credible approaches, when performed by a competent mental health clinician, produce almost the same results. About half of all kids will get better. Of those that improve, 80% will show progress in a relatively short time (likely in fewer than six sessions), the remaining 20% will need longer-term support.

The best child therapists in Arizona build great relationships with the child and the parent. They also see the child's strengths and are open to hearing the child's possible solutions to the challenges the child faces. Finally, a good therapist appreciates the child's culture and is sensitive to the values of the child's community.
