Sometimes, unexpected life events, loss or difficult relationships can cause us to feel stuck, out of control, or even that we have lost our value or purpose. I’d love to help you discover your strengths, teach you new skills, and equip you with tools that will help you walk forward with confidence.

These transitions can include many areas of our life such as relationships, grief, trauma, mid-life transitions, and every area in between.
Everyone has a narrative that has led them to where they are today and it deserves to be honored, valued, and heard. Sometimes our story includes hardships, addiction, anxiety, and other aspects that can be perceived by others as negatives. Many of us will carry our “brokenness” around in silence for long periods of time before it weighs us down to the point where we feel confused, heavy, tired, and overwhelmed.

I specialize in LGBTQ issues, infertility, same sex couples/families, grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD/Autism and adolescent behavioral issues.
Life is full of ups and downs that can be overwhelming at times. While learning to manage and adapt is important to personal growth, so is having someone walk that journey with you. I base my therapeutic approach around building a solid foundation of trust and acceptance with my clients. I value individuality and will encourage first and foremost that you accept “you as you” and not what today’s societal norms tell you what you should or shouldn’t be. I look forward to working with you and/or your family and being a resource to help you continue your journey.

No one comes out of childhood without bumps and bruises. No matter how loved you were, no one's caregivers are perfect. Even though you've grown and have come a long way, you still feel a sense of unease with the way things are. Your wounds affect the way you see the world and how you show up in your relationships. You find yourself feeling both sensitive and numb. You may not always be able to access your emotions, even with the people who care about you. You've done your best to adjust with the things that you've been given, but you feel like you can't move on until you gain clarity about what you've been through.

Understanding the world around you can be challenging, especially when faced with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, or general life stress. Children, teens, and young adults may have even more of a challenge if they are still learning about themselves or have experienced stressors beyond their control. Learning skills to overcome these stressors or wanting to create a deeper understanding of the self are two reasons young adults or parents (of children in need) may seek out therapy.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
