I am trained in the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to address trauma and other issues and use a wide range of other effective techniques to address different needs.
I am eager to help adults, children, and families create positive change in their lives and relationships and want to assist people in growing into who they want to be through overcoming anxiety, depression, and trauma. Lives and relationships can be truly enhanced through facing these obstacles, and no one should have to face them alone. I have experience with adults with intellectual disabilities, very young children and their families, and adults and children across a range of populations. I have worked in outpatient, day treatment, and acute care settings and understand the broad scope of mental health treatment needs.

In counseling, my focus is to meet clients where they are, help them determine where they want to be, and enable them to accomplish their goals. Change is possible! It takes work, but it is worth it to become the person you want to be. I have seen clients rise above unbelievable challenges and accomplish their goals. I have also walked along side those who are grieving or hurting to see them blossom out of the depths of their experiences. In addition, I am trained in EMDR therapy to treat trauma.

I have been trained in trauma therapy (EMDR), couple therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help clients with depression, anxiety, and unpredictable emotions.
My primary experience is in working with individuals and couples to heal relationship wounds, recover from trauma, and find new ways to interact with life’s most stubborn issues. My ideal clients probably have really tough problems, and they may be hurting very deeply, but they are also ready to try on new thoughts and behaviors to find healing and their "new normal." I work with those suffering from PTSD symptoms, severe anxiety and/or depression, as well as individuals and couples in affair recovery, blended family situations, and those going through major life changes.

That’s where EMDR and Somatic Experiencing are often helpful as body-based approaches.
No, you shouldn't be "over it" even though people like to tell you that. Time does NOT heal all wounds and healing often does not happen in a one-time event. Past painful events or old injustices have a way of keeping us stuck. Our childhood experiences shape our bodies and minds and set the stage for how we relate to others and ourselves. The good news is that we can heal, change, grow, reorganize, and recover physiologically through healing our nervous systems. Trauma not only affects the mind but also the body which is why somatic therapy acknowledges the vital role of the body in recovering from traumatic experiences.

I am EMDR trained as well.
Life often throws curve balls at us, leaving us without direction, hurting, and unsure of ourselves as well as the world around us. In that time, we find ourselves behaving and feeling ways that are not true reflections of who we are. Things from our past can really haunt us if we don't process them. My ideal client wants to process what they have been through and make changes for their future selves.

Additionally, I specialize in the use of EMDR therapy, a fast-working and astonishingly effective therapy that works directly with emotions, traumatic memories, and unconscious issues at their cores, allowing both mental and emotional resolution.
It takes courage and integrity to recognize when we're not happy and to do something positive about it. There are times in all our lives when we feel there is something holding us back from reaching our potentials. We may have fears, anxieties, or other sources of emotional pain that seem to keep us from fulfilling roles in our lives in the ways we would like--in our careers, in our relationships, as a parents, etc. Psychotherapy is a pathway to creating the life you want by identifying and removing obstacles and working toward the positive changes you need.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
