Working through a scary concept, worried about a potential diagnosis, newly diagnosed, what does this mean for me? How do I integrate it into who I believe myself to be. What if there's no diagnosis and I'm just struggling and can't figure out why? What if all those things people said about me were true. What if they weren't?

Change. It must be something you are considering as you read through counselor profiles. Change is powerful, healing, and necessary as we maneuver through life. Boundaries. This word is life changing. Healthy boundaries allow others to love us and appreciate us fully for who we are. Balance. Peace. Joy. These are achieved with hard work and implementing therapeutic tools we are often not taught in life. Therapy is a good place to explore, reprocess, learn, practice, and implement the skills needed to make these changes and follow your path toward self-actualization.

Much of my work involves helping men and women who have found themselves in the grip of depression, anxiety, spiritual turmoil or are experiencing a loss of their sense of self. I'm an advocate for building emotional intelligence and helping others recover from the effects of toxic or emotionally manipulative relationships. Issues including church hurt, divorce recovery, infidelity, grief and loss, personality disorders and co-dependency are just a few more to name. Regardless the issue, I am drawn to understanding what true healing looks like for you. Are you actively healing or is the pain less because your triggers are absent?

Life doesn’t come with a set of instructions. Sometimes we find that what we are doing is no longer working in the way we want it to. We may find ourselves experiencing work problems, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, difficulties reaching goals, issues with parenting, grief, or just feeling like life isn’t what we want it to be. I help clients identify and build on their current strengths, while identifying ways to strengthen and build on areas that may be more challenging. It is my intention to create a safe space for clients to process their experiences, share their challenges, and find the best path forward.

Have you ever felt like a stranger in your own home or all alone in a room with close family members and friends? It’s normal to feel that way at times, but how you respond is pivotal. It is so easy to lose sight of self care when you are busy caring for others. If you can relate, take proactive measures before those challenges turn into severe medical issues such as major depression, anxiety, anger management issues or grief. Free yourself from psychological bondage.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
