I offer effective modalities including EMDR, Brainspotting, and somatic techniques.
Having been around the world, I know two things to be true: human suffering knows no culture or class, and the need for connection is universal. We are not meant to do life alone, and times of struggle can be such painful illustrations of that. By the time you seek out therapy, you have probably been at this for some time, white-knuckling the steering wheel of life, and adapting in the only ways you know. When you doubt your strength, know the courage it took to get here is not lost on me.

I often incorporate somatic experiencing, a body-oriented approach, into talk therapy which aims to drain emotions of their power, alleviate pain and better manage stress.
Life is full of twists and turns that can leave us feeling unsure of the path ahead and sometimes even unsure of who we are. Are you feeling anxious, down, or just not like yourself lately? Perhaps painful memories weigh heavy on your mind and heart. Whether you are feeling stuck, in crisis or preparing for a change, I am here to provide a safe, supportive space for you to better understand yourself and your path forward, to increase your capacity to navigate difficult life events, overcome fear and anxiety, heal from past trauma wounds— and ultimately experience more meaning and fulfillment in your life.

I am passionate about working with individuals who are struggling with symptoms resulting from any type of overwhelming experience or trauma, especially early life trauma and neglect. Through my years of practice, I have seen that it's often true that, while people can experience great healing with talk therapy alone, it doesn't always feel like enough. Over the last 12 years, this has led me to pursue more specialized training in trauma-centered interventions, including Somatic Experiencing and clinical neurofeedback.

By combining traditional psychotherapy with various "body-based" techniques I specialized in "somatic psychotherapy," an effective holistic practice helping client needs ranging from trauma to common challenges of depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship issues.
Let's face it, life events shape our present, and contribute to a loss of connection to ourselves, family, others, and the world. A recovered sense-of-self is essential for empowerment to face these issues. And, because this disconnect initially occurs in earliest childhood, traditional "talk" therapy alone is an insufficient approach. I am a therapist shaped by a myriad of life roles and events. I intentionally sought a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in "somatic psychology" to underscore my own therapeutic experience. Somatic psychology studies how the "body" informs and provides clues to our emotional responses linked to childhood.

I also use my training with Somatic Experiencing to assist clients with becoming friends with their nervous system, helping it to discharge the negative and stressful energy stored there.
I specialize in treating individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Many times trauma/stress/distress result in individuals coping and managing alone and I believe the healing work begins when individuals are able to find trusted others to do the work with. I cultivate a safe environment for healing , while being compassionate, understanding, curious, and non-judgmental.

I give you practical ways to manage impossible stressors, and I use Somatic Experiencing to help you move through the trauma you’ve experienced.
I work with clients who are currently facing major life changes or who have trauma from experiences in their past that are affecting their day to day lives. I am a widow and a single mom, and having walked through hell myself now hold space for others doing the same. The purpose of therapy is to help your nervous system to calm down so that you can move out of the ups and downs of depression and anxiety and into a calmer, more empowered way of living.

I tailor several approaches to make them accessible for all bodies including: Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Brainspotting, parts work, yoga, intuitive eating, & expressive art interventions.
Now Accepting Searcy & Telehealth Clients! Do you find yourself feeling everything or nothing at all? Being “all-in” relationships or baracaded against vulnerability? When hurts happen we find ways to survive, but we are meant for much more than survival. Many people with chronic traumatic stress struggle with embracing connection & self-compassion. It can be overwhelming to navigate the effects of trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, relationships with food, spiritual deconstruction/transition, and shame alone. Allow me to be your guide and advocate by supporting you to embody safety while facing past, present, and future adversity.

No, you shouldn't be "over it" even though people like to tell you that. Time does NOT heal all wounds and healing often does not happen in a one-time event. Past painful events or old injustices have a way of keeping us stuck. Our childhood experiences shape our bodies and minds and set the stage for how we relate to others and ourselves. The good news is that we can heal, change, grow, reorganize, and recover physiologically through healing our nervous systems. Trauma not only affects the mind but also the body which is why somatic therapy acknowledges the vital role of the body in recovering from traumatic experiences.

I use somatic and experiential approaches rooted in evidence-based practice.
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I collaborate with clients so they can engage in self-exploration and practice skills grounded in their personal values. As a queer nonbinary, fat therapist, I believe in addressing intersecting identities and building a compassionate relationship that centers the client's distinct needs. I specialize in relationship and sex therapy and especially enjoy working with individuals, couples, and polycules navigating changes in identity and sexual health. I have experience working with the impact of medical trauma and chronic illness on sexuality and with exploration of sexual and gender identity.

I've additional training/focus in Narrative, Polyvagal, Compassion, Somatic & Trauma-focused care.
The world we inhabit is one of incredible beauty and goodness, yet also deep hurt, pain, suffering and loss. None are immune to struggle along the way. I believe this collision of experience can, at times, become wrapped, hidden, in emotional, mental, physical and relational distress. I am privileged to work with clients that come carrying a great deal of experience and challenge in navigating their lives. It is my honor to join with you as we seek to unwrap your story together, look toward safer, more secure and deeper connection with self and others, and aim to reduce the impact of the pain and brokenness you encounter.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
