Welcome! My name is Laura Carpenter and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Fayetteville, Arkansas. My specialties include working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. My goal for our time together is to provide a warm, safe environment for you to find relief and healing.

I'm an experienced counselor dedicated to helping individuals overcome their mental health concerns and relationship issues. My practice focuses on hearing and collaborating with you to create a treatment plan specific to you and your needs. My approach includes emotion focused and others, provide therapy to individuals, beginning with adolescence through senior adult, which includes treatment for, but is not limited to phase of life and adjustment disorders, depression and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, trauma, personality disorders, and interpersonal relationship distress. I also provide premarital and couples counseling.

A little about me, I have experience working in community mental health, school based programs, psychiatric hospitals, and intensive outpatient programs for over 25 years.

I am here to assist your child and you through difficult times. I am a Licensed Professional Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist. I have specialized training using dogs and horses in my therapy sessions. When young children have problems, they aren't yet emotionally equipped to sit down and tell you or a therapist what is bothering them, but they can tell a trained therapist what is wrong through their play. In a play therapy room, equipped with specific toys and designed to make a child feel safe and secure, many feelings can be expressed through play.

Lauren is passionate about mental health and counseling. She believes that the counseling process should be enjoyable, and that a client-centered approach and individualization is key to therapeutic growth. Lauren has helped adults, children & families learn to cope and grow through various life changes and difficulties. Lauren places importance on creating a judgement-free atmosphere, and holding space in which you can safely and openly share and explore thoughts and feelings.

I truly enjoy collaborating with a client to explore their needs and help them become a healthier, happier person. I have a broad range of experience and have worked extensively with people dealing with anxiety and stress management, depression, substance abuse and addiction, and eating disorders. I am a Licensed Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselor and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. I have also done a lot of work with individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, managing boundaries, tolerating distress, & coping with emotions. I think my clients can best speak to what the experience at NWA Therapy is like.

With experience as a therapist since 2010, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide array of clients through community mental health. I've been able to gain experience treating variety of mental health concerns including treating individuals with anxiety, depression, challenging family dynamics, trauma, and children with behavioral issues. After working as a Program Coordinator managing a team of therapists and paraprofessionals, I am excited to be established in private practice at NWA Therapy so I can facilitate counseling in a way that helps me tap into all the skills I have developed so far in my career.

I work with children, adolescents, and young adults to address a number of mental health and behavioral concerns, from difficulty adjusting to life's stressors to serious emotional and behavioral challenges related to neglect, trauma, and abuse. When difficulties arise in the school setting with peers and teachers, parents often don't know where to turn for help.

I enjoy working with a wide range of populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have a particular passion for working with young people transitioning from adolescence into college through their emergence into young adulthood. I also find great reward in working with clients who have complex backgrounds with long histories of chronic psychological distress and relationship problems.

I am an attachment-based therapist in NWA who relies on evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches to work with clients of all backgrounds, sexualities, ethnicities, and ages. I use emotion-focused therapy and client-centered therapy. LGBTQIA+/poly affirming and celebratory.

Throughout my career, I have worked with clients walking through anxiety, life transitions, grief, and terminal illness and primarily work with women who deal with these issues. Through my time working in this profession, I have also been involved in ministry ranging in different capacities and have learned so much through my own walk with my community and the Lord. My heart and hope for this practice come from Isaiah 41, showing we all are in need, but God will provide, turning dust, despair, into beauty and life.
