Therapy can sometimes seem like a one-sided conversation with someone saying “Mmm hmm” a whole bunch. That’s not how I do therapy. We will converse as much as you are comfortable. To me, your story matters. It may be one that you have lived months or decades trying to forget, but it still matters. If you are ready to unpack and sort through it with someone who will listen without judgement, please reach out. I can’t wait to meet you.

I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

At some point in life, we all experience loss and hurt. Sometimes it’s too hard to talk about. And most of the time you don’t know what to do with all of it. Whether you’re grieving the death of a loved one, a relationship, or just feel stuck – it can be hard to move forward. You may have things from the past that feel like they still have power over you. You may become confused, sad, angry, or just overwhelmed by life – not sure how to move forward.

Have you ever felt like a stranger in your own home or all alone in a room with close family members and friends? It’s normal to feel that way at times, but how you respond is pivotal. It is so easy to lose sight of self care when you are busy caring for others. If you can relate, take proactive measures before those challenges turn into severe medical issues such as major depression, anxiety, anger management issues or grief. Free yourself from psychological bondage.

Her experience is in working with marriage relationships, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse survivors, ministry hurts, grief/ loss, and relationship issues.
What is that nagging feeling trying to tell you? Have you been ignoring or stuffing something that is just too hard to keep inside? Perhaps that emotion has a message to get across to you, but what is it? Let’s explore what that “check engine light” in your body is saying about your life or about a very important relationship. If you are struggling in a marriage, feeling confused, alone, stuck, or hurt, Jinny would love to help you get “unstuck.” We all get mixed up sometimes and it’s ok to not be ok.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
