I hold a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University.
I work with children, teens, adults, and couples. I understand life challenges are different for everyone because we all experience events and phases of life differently. Adjusting to changes in life and relationships or coming to terms with your past can be overwhelming. Empowering you is the most important part of counseling. My goal is to be a team with you if you are looking for growth, change, and a new way of perceiving and receiving life. It takes courage to come to therapy and open up to change whether it be as an individual, couple or a family.

There is a certain kind of validation and personal development that comes from authentic and genuine connection with another human. Sometimes, being with friends and family provides the support we need. Often times, we need an individualized safe and caring environment to share our deepest thoughts, feelings, fears, concerns, vulnerabilities, past and present experiences and hopes for the future in order to make changes, learn to be and accept ourselves as we truly want to be.

I settled in Northwest Arkansas after completing a Bachelor of Science in Family and Human Services from John Brown University and a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Arkansas.
I use a person-centered, attachment-oriented approach in my practice. I prioritize developing a therapeutic alliance with my clients as I regard this to be one of the most important factors in client growth and success. I am a firm believer that therapy is not only for “broken” or “sick” people and that everyone can benefit from a safe, confidential space to process emotions, grow in self-awareness, and receive feedback as they navigate life’s challenges. Whatever it is, you don't have to go through it alone. I provide affirming therapy to LGBTQIA+ people and desire my office to be a place of safety and authenticity for them.

After a 20+ year marriage, I became a single mom of five children. With no education and no work experience the road seemed too difficult to travel. Yet, I struggled and fought for myself and for my children. I am happy to say that they are now 26-36 years old and wonderful adults. When we face difficult challenges, it is important to have a good support system. That may be family, friends or just maybe a good therapist:)

Charis is passionate about helping clients with neurodiversity such as ADHD, OCD, sensory needs, and various learning disorders. In addition, she has experience working with clients with anxiety, trauma, sleep disturbances, depression, grief and loss, relational concerns and behavioral issues. Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
