When people are struggling, they want to be heard, validated, and feel that there is hope. Their goal may be to just feel better, but they need help figuring out how to get there. They want someone they can talk to without fear of judgement and who can help them process their thoughts and emotions in a way that they may not have done in the past. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with 20 years experience. I obtained an independent license to practice and also have a supervisory designation. The majority of my experience is in grief and loss and bereavement including traumatic loss (Suicide/Overdose), as well as adjustment, anxiety, depression, and caregiver stress.
Reaching out for support can be a difficult step, but I know one thing to be true, it does get better. The importance of feeling heard, being reflective, & taking time to work on you can not be underestimated.
