Most people grapple with challenges related to self-esteem, self-actualization, emotional awareness and intimate relationships, (be they with a partner, family, friends or business associates). In helping people with these matters throughout my 45-year practice I have found them to be based on attachment trauma, personal and interpersonal conflict, anxiety and whatever set of problematic behaviors have arisen from attempting to cope with these issues (for example, avoidance, depression, food and substance abuse. I see one's emotional life as the wellspring of both joy and pain and believe feelings must be experienced in conjunction with insight and understanding. Other areas of special interest are indicated by my certification in Psychodynamic Therapy, ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy), Attachment, and Human Sexuality.
Although being a therapist is the heart of my career, I also enjoy teaching and consulting. I created the Balancing Life Project(R), an educational wellness and enrichment program; have taught at UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount, Antioch Universities; consulted with numerous organizations and presented at national and international conferences.
