Hi, I am Andrea. I am a PhD candidate and pre-licensed clinical professional counselor providing counseling services to young/emerging adults (17-25) and adults in Illinois. I enjoy working with clients from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who struggle with past or ongoing trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss. I believe that culture, race, ethnicity and nationality all contribute to our view of ourselves and how we interact with the world and people around us. I have a special passion for mental health and well-being of pregnant, postpartum and parents experiencing fertility issues and loss.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that healthy human relationships are essential to our well-being. I ground my clinical work in evidenced-based, psychodynamic theories such as Relationally Focused Psychodynamic Therapy (RFPT), Self-Psychology, psychodynamic therapy, as well as shorter term approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
As a therapist I am an ear, ally and sometimes one who will lovingly challenge you to embrace the power you already possess. The work we do to find, harness and move forward in the face of what seem like insurmountable feelings and circumstances is the hardest, most rewarding work we can do.
