I have found much success with clients using a specific therapeutic approach called EMDR.
Depression, anxiety, and fear are three emotions that can hinder individuals from leading happy, productive lives. I have extensive training in these areas that help my clients to alleviate, if not eliminate the distressing circumstances that cause emotional pain. If you've ever been abused emotionally or physically, have experienced a traumatic event, feel stuck in an unfulfilling relationship, or struggle with daily life stressors, I know I can help you through it.

I've trained in plenty of therapeutic techniques (some of the letters I've collected: EMDR, ACT, CBT, PMH-C.
Feeling stuck? Overwhelmed? Like everyone and everything is demanding your energy, and you don't have anything left for yourself? Maybe you've tried all the things already. You follow all the therapist IG accounts, you read the books, you journal and you have limitless insight into your difficulties, and yet your frustration and resentment haven't budged. Doing it all by yourself isn't getting results, because humans don't heal in isolation. So here you are, reaching out to another human being for support. And here I am, ready to reconnect you with your own power so that you move to the other side of the suffering.

My approach is a trauma informed, compassionate and collaborative relationship using tools from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR.
I am on maternity leave through July 2024. Life is hard, but we don't have to do hard things alone. Finding balance, creating change, and seeking stability are things we are all longing for in a world of chaos. Therapy can help us find that. Understanding ourselves, our values, our motivations, and our beliefs help us create a meaningful life that feels worth living. Whether you are struggling with symptoms of anxiety or depression, haunts from past trauma, or experiencing life changes and transitions, we can work together towards healing.

I specialize in helping patients that are dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma related issues. Worry, fear and bad memories often interfere with a person’s daily life. These problems can be very stressful and can affect a person’s social relationships, work performance, and self esteem. These individuals often turn to maladaptive coping strategies such as drugs and/or alcohol to find relief. I work with these patients to help them manage life difficulties and heal from past trauma in order to learn new ways of thinking and coping.

More recently I have focused my ongoing professional training in trauma-informed therapies, including the use of EMDR as a therapeutic modality.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist, dedicated to helping people achieve fulfilling lives in which they enjoy satisfying relationships, a feeling of productivity, and acceptance of oneself. In my thirty years of practice, I have seen, over and over, that establishing a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship is the first and most critical step in fostering one's ability to examine their vulnerabilities and to recognize their own strengths.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
