Trauma is any event that overwhelms one's ability to cope. It can be a major/inherently violent event (car accident, rape, serious illness/major surgery, war/combat) or smaller more complex/chronic events (abuse/neglect, domestic violence, living in an unstable/unsafe environment, poverty, and even religion.) Often people don't realize they've been through something that was traumatic to them. Instead thinking the effects of the trauma (difficulty concentrating, mood swings, fail academically, can't keep a job, chronic pain, chronic relationship problems) are representative of who they are as a person, and feel helpless/hopeless.
Because our experiences shape our lives, I ask, "What happened to you?" rather than "What's wrong with you?" With this trauma focused lens, my goal is to help you to learn how to take your life back from the hold the trauma has on you or, in some cases, to find your true self for the first time in your life which has been buried under a lifetime of trauma.
I am a neurodivergent trauma-focused therapist with lived experience in many of the same areas, and I am passionate about helping my clients through these things.
