I have over 20 years of experience working with children and families. I work from a strength based perspective and focus on identifying goals and then taking small achievable steps to work towards progress and a sense of accomplishment. I use play techniques with children to elicit their perspectives and develop a plan for building new understandings. I strive to support the development of problem solving skills and strategies for coping. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation and other current strategies such as mindfulness with both children, families and individuals to bring about positive changes.
I have training in child development, supporting parents, teaching, as a child life specialist responding to families having a family member with a medical diagnosis, counseling and play therapy, postpartum adjustment and mood disorders, trauma, grief and loss, abuse, developmental delays and ADHD, and supporting parents having an infant in the NICU.
Wheelock College provided me with a solid understanding of child and family development & supporting families during stressful experiences. My MSW from Rutgers focused on developing counseling skills & understanding therapeutic approaches. My experience includes Early Intervention, providing therapy to children, families and facilitating groups for postpartum women and parents having an infant in the NICU.
