My focus is humanistic, trauma-informed, and relational/cultural, which means two main things: 1) I view counseling as a collaborative partnership between equals. All individuals are experts in their own lives and possess the ability to move toward awareness, acceptance, and connection. 2) I believe external factors often influence thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and that individuals can grow and even thrive if they are willing and ready to look honestly at whatever has them feeling "stuck." I often help people think through and reprocess complex developmental, psychological and cultural trauma influencing symptoms they present.
My interventions with clients tend to include mindful, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), existential, narrative, solution-focused, psychodynamic, and somatic ("bottom-up") approaches. I am EMDR-trained and working toward EMDRIA certification with an EMDRIA-certified supervisor.
The essence of any therapeutic relationship is an honest, trusting connection between people. I won't try to be the observing "expert" in your life's challenges, but I do promise to be a committed, genuine, and grounded supporter to you.
