Hi! I'm Alex and I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist. My approach to therapy is integrative and eclectic, but it is individualized to each client because no two people are exactly the same. That being said, I have found my focus areas are largely anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions and self-esteem. I work with a wide range of clients based on age, ethnicity, and other identifying characteristics. However, if I had to break it down more specifically, I believe the most common focuses of therapy are anxiety, relationships, life transitions (or change), and self-esteem building.
I think goal setting is important right from the get-go. There's a reason why someone seeks support, and I think it's important, if not necessary, to recognize that and use it as a north star. Of course, life happens, and things change, which might mean we need to adapt and that's okay... but I find some structure to be helpful.
The first session is unique. It's a balancing act of setting a safe and trusting tone, while also directly exploring what brings someone in. I usually ask more questions, but that's because I want and need to know more about the person!
