Hello, my name is Alena Kanter. I am credentialed as an Advanced Practice Social Worker and love working with children and pre-teens. I have two years of experience as a school-based therapist. Most of my clients came to me due to behavioral concerns at home and at school, usually stemming from trauma, big life changes and transitions. Many children struggle with big emotions and how to express and process them. I help my clients with coping mechanisms, processing their trauma, safe expression of feelings, and being able to regulate their bodies and minds.
My specialty is working with children and pre-teens, mainly using play-therapy. Play therapy incorporates sensory items, art, puppets, interactive games and more to help children explore and process their feelings and trauma. I also specialize in teaching coping skills, building social skills, and processing life changes and transitions.
I understand all of the big emotions that children have and how challenging it can be as a parent/guardian to want to help. As a parent myself and a previous school therapist, I have seen and experienced these challenges, and I have also seen how therapy can help so much.
