I am a LMFT Supervisor & a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I work with children (1 year old up), teens, families, combatants, first responders, victims of violent crimes, & others. I treat preverbal or traumatic attachment (kids/teens), complex trauma, anxiety, behavioral issues and other childhood needs. Learning to see from your child's perspective helps caregiver(s) to understand their child/ren and family. My goals are to collaborate with you & your family to restore balance, improve communication, provide neuro-divergent psychoeducation, promote more secure attachments and develop competency.

Greetings! My name is Geri Hernandez. I am a licensed professional counselor. I am passionate about working with young children and their families. I value my role supporting caregivers/parents in managing their child’s behaviors. I value play as an important factor when supporting children and their families and have witnessed the effectiveness and positive impact play can have on child development, social-emotional learning, and strengthening of the parent-child relationship.

I graduated from Kaplan University with a masters degree in psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis. My personal journey has led me to focus primarily on the stressors that stem from trauma and severe life stressors. I have a passion for helping people heal in order to become the best possible version on themselves. I have experience working with clients both in residential treatment centers and in the community. As a retired military/veterans spouse, I have a firsthand understanding of the unique challenges our military families face; I am dedicated to helping them maneuver the different stages of life.

In our sessions, I create a safe and welcoming space for you to better understand yourself and the impact of your life experiences on your everyday functioning. I believe that our life experiences shape and inform core beliefs, which, in turn, shape and define our experience of the world. Together, we'll explore these internal narratives and beliefs, working on rewriting them to enhance your well-being. My foundation in trauma-informed care guides my work, and I respect and support you in your process, attuning to your motivation level, and creatively exploring strategies and solutions for success.

When you have tried everything to help your child, and are still not seeing meaningful change, that is where I can help. I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my career, but my passion lies in working with preschool and elementary school children. Young children face unique challenges in learning to navigate the world around them, and benefit from having a supportive space outside of their daily lives where they can explore their inner worlds, while also learning how to interact appropriately in the outside world.

Many people I meet with began therapy because life became overwhelming. People pleasing, perfectionism, and “holding it together” for everyone else left them at a loss. Hiding their imperfections and needs did not lead to better relationships, it actually led to more stress, worry, and feeling alone. I’ve sat with people who have difficulty knowing even the seemingly simplest things about themselves, like where they’d like to go to dinner, or what color looks good on them. All of this reflecting a deeper problem.

You know something isn’t right in your life and hasn’t been right for a while. You also know that you really don’t like talking about it, but your behaviors are becoming more problematic every day. Maybe you are fighting with loved ones, eating or drinking too much, sleeping too much or not enough, avoiding intimacy with your partner(s). I am a Psychologist and lifelong Alaskan, growing up and working in Anchorage. My clinical focus and expertise, whether as a therapist or when conducting evaluations, is to work with individuals to develop a sense of personal strength and capacity, and to identify and achieve their goals.
