We offer marriage counseling (including pre-marital), but also treat anxiety disorders, anger management, divorce issues, stress reduction, spiritual direction, trauma recovery, grief and loss.
As an ordained Christian minister of 30 years, I specialize in faith-integration for those seeking spiritual direction, and Christian counseling with evidence based training. Do you struggle with anger, anxiety, grief, or a challenging relationship, that affects your day-to-day life? Do you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or lost? Now more than ever, people feel anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about overcoming difficult relationship, managing difficult feelings, or finding their place in life. We believe living better shouldn’t be so hard and people can change.

You and your partner are staring at a long, bumpy road ahead of you. Once, you were excited to go on this journey together. Now, part of you is terrified of what's to come. You want to make things work, but you're tired and weary of having the same fight over and over. You can't seem to agree on anything. Are we ready for marriage or have similar goals? What's the best way to raise our kids? Enter stress from outside the relationship- pressure from opinionated in-laws, ever-increasing demands from work, kids acting out at school. Just when you need your partner's support the most, you feel like your teammate has left you stranded.

Are you having difficulties in your marriage or dealing with family conflict. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, depression or dealing with trauma from your past. At some point in our lives we will experience emotional and psychological distress. YOU DON’T have to struggle alone. It is common for people to attempt to deal with stress on their own. People choose to do this because they don't understand the benefits of therapy. Therapy helps us understand why we act and respond in unhealthy ways. Therapy helps us get through difficult times and strengthen personal relationships. Therapy helps us process feelings and emotions.

I have been trained in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Strength At Home (Evidence Based Intimate Partner Violence curriculum), and Gottman Marriage Therapy.
We all face difficulties in our lives. Negative emotions and thoughts are inevitable but they have the power to stop us dead in our tracks. Fortunately, we can take our power back using research based strategies. It takes a lot of courage to take the first step towards breaking cycles. I have worked with many clients who have either not had a good impression of therapy or who had a bad experience with it. My hope is that your experience with me will be a positive one and that you will walk away with noticeable change and real strategies to help you.

Though I have specific training in relationship issues (such as marriage, pre-marriage, same-sex unions, parenting, infidelity, and in-law issues), I also work a great deal with individuals. I offer specific forgiveness training that has proven extremely helpful in healing grievances and resentments; and am trained in the use of EMDR. When motivated, there is no limit to the potential for improved relationships, personal fulfillment, and peace. In work with couples, I see great improvement when there is deep motivation. And it is part of my job to foster, and nurture that motivation in each partner.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
