Working with adult individuals who are seeking a Christian perspective to whatever challenges they are facing is my main focus. In addition to providing therapy services, I also provide psychological testing and evaluations of all kinds, including (but not limited to) specific learning disabilities, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, personality, and vocational/career interests.

Pet peeves: when prayer needs are taken, and these are the most common replies: “I need wisdom and guidance.” (Who doesn’t?) “My aunt’s neighbor fell on her butt in the driveway. Please pray that she doesn't require surgery.” (People have a way of distancing themselves from being honest about what they really need.) Imagine the freedom you might experience if you had the liberty to be truthful about what you really need. For example, “I’m not even sure I believe in God anymore; I’m so angry and hurt.” I am a board-certified chaplain (BCC) and seminary-trained pastor (MDiv) working as a FT pastoral counselor (19 years).

I have worked with children, adolescents, families, and adults for over 20 years. This has given me experience in school settings, both in the elementary and high school areas, as well as, a mental health setting which implemented a team approach to care including psychiatrists, nurses, and psychotherapists. I have gained valuable experience in treating various disorders, as well as issues within families. Although I have worked in a variety of settings, my goal has remained constant: do all I can to encourage people to feel valued, to know they are cared about, and to feel empowered to act from their own inner wisdom.

Therapy is beneficial in treating a broad number of emotional difficulties, stress reactions, traumatic experiences, mental disorders as well as providing support and facilitation during situational challenges. I use psycho-education to help clients develop a better understanding of the symptoms they experience and help them learn to recognize their thinking patterns and beliefs while providing a variety of coping skills including mindfulness.

Since we are created spiritual as well as physical and psychological I believe including the spiritual component can bring resolution to the source of the issues and not just symptom reduction.

I help people by listening to what they want from counseling, incorporating their values and Christian values to determine goals. Treatment plans are behavioral and specific using cognitive emotional reframing to achieve positive attitudes. Supportive encouraging confidential responses focus on the person's current and longer term situations. Goals are determined by assessing symptoms and circumstances using Biblical principals. Prayer is included as desired.

God intends for us to be happy and content while the struggles of this world constantly attack the very foundation of our mental health. Things like intrusive thoughts of fear, jealously, inferiority, anger, mistrust, unforgiveness, and guilt rob us of our confidence and sense of wellbeing. Obsessive behavior or feelings of anxiety or depression can prevent or erode relationships that add so much to our lives. Healthy work relationships, marriage, and family relationships are all negatively or positively impacted by our perception. Our behavior will not change until our thinking changes. Why continue in pain when there is a relief.
