Experienced EMT, a fully CACREP-accredited graduate program, and Christian values have helped expanded my capacity and insight.
I work as a partner with clients to sift through the confusion that often comes with stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Thinking, feeling, and personal history connect in ways that form unique personal experiences. Through those experiences we form thoughts and use words that may not allow us to live life to our fullest potential. Today is the day you can start to change those words to improve your potential.

What this means for you is that I can lead you through your struggles in a way that is consistent with your biblical Christian faith without being pushy or judgmental.
Pet peeves: when prayer needs are taken, and these are the most common replies: “I need wisdom and guidance.” (Who doesn’t?) “My aunt’s neighbor fell on her butt in the driveway. Please pray that she doesn't require surgery.” (People have a way of distancing themselves from being honest about what they really need.) Imagine the freedom you might experience if you had the liberty to be truthful about what you really need. For example, “I’m not even sure I believe in God anymore; I’m so angry and hurt.” I am a board-certified chaplain (BCC) and seminary-trained pastor (MDiv) working as a FT pastoral counselor (19 years).

My passion and commitment is to help individuals and families navigate through difficult times in their life using Christian principals.
I have worked with children, adolescents, families, and adults for over 20 years. This has given me experience in school settings, both in the elementary and high school areas, as well as, a mental health setting which implemented a team approach to care including psychiatrists, nurses, and psychotherapists. I have gained valuable experience in treating various disorders, as well as issues within families. Although I have worked in a variety of settings, my goal has remained constant: do all I can to encourage people to feel valued, to know they are cared about, and to feel empowered to act from their own inner wisdom.

If you desire it, I’m able to include biblical wisdom and Christian Counseling in our work together.
Hi, I'm Beverly. I’m glad that you've made your way to this page in your search for solutions. I know that God has them for you and that you're not alone. Life’s problems, including mental health issues, are real, common, and treatable. Recovery is possible. In therapy with me, every single part of you is welcome. Our therapy sessions are a place for you to lay your burdens down and be refreshed and renewed. It's likely we will laugh a lot, and we may also cry. Each of us is different and multifaceted. I'm interested in seeing the real you shine and in helping you see it too.

Even though my specialty is Christian counseling I welcome working with clients from any belief and value system.
Life is a journey and many times it is not easy. My goal and purpose in counseling is to help my clients through the challenges and crises of life. In those difficult times it is hard to be objective and make the best decisions for ourselves and others. The counseling process can provide new objective perspectives and understanding. I listen, understand, stay calm and am not judgmental. Since we are created spiritual as well as physical and psychological I believe including the spiritual component can bring resolution to the source of the issues and not just symptom reduction.

I help people by listening to what they want from counseling, incorporating their values and Christian values to determine goals. Treatment plans are behavioral and specific using cognitive emotional reframing to achieve positive attitudes. Supportive encouraging confidential responses focus on the person's current and longer term situations. Goals are determined by assessing symptoms and circumstances using Biblical principals. Prayer is included as desired.

44 years of my life has been in the ministry and I am excited to introduce Christian-based themes into your therapeutic process.
God intends for us to be happy and content while the struggles of this world constantly attack the very foundation of our mental health. Things like intrusive thoughts of fear, jealously, inferiority, anger, mistrust, unforgiveness, and guilt rob us of our confidence and sense of wellbeing. Obsessive behavior or feelings of anxiety or depression can prevent or erode relationships that add so much to our lives. Healthy work relationships, marriage, and family relationships are all negatively or positively impacted by our perception. Our behavior will not change until our thinking changes. Why continue in pain when there is a relief.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
