For over 26 years I have been working with people seeking improvements in their personal lives or relationships. I welcome individuals, couples or families from all backgrounds whether their concerns are personal or relational. My approach is “strength-based,” which means that I look for client competencies and resources, and try to avoid pathologizing people because of their problems, past or diagnoses. How often and how long the therapy will last depends on client goals and treatment needs and will be mutually agreed upon. The atmosphere in my office is relaxed and warm, and clients are always treated with dignity and respect.

I am a licensed professional counselor with over 15 years experience, specializing in the treatment of PTSD, trauma, and symptoms related to distressing events. I enjoy getting to know clients, developing an increased understanding of them; where they have been, where they are, and where they want to go. I am committed to helping clients. I am trained and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and serve as the North Alabama EMDRIA Regional Coordinator.

I specialize in working with adolescents and families who have experienced trauma. I have been trained in child-centered play therapy including sand tray therapy. My counseling style is an eclectic approach blending Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, play therapy, and Client-Centered therapy. I also have advocacy experience in helping families locate and utilize resources necessary for helping them get back on their feet after experiencing trauma.

I am a clinical social worker with 25 years of experience in helping clients improve their lives. I believe therapy should be goal-oriented and client-driven. I utilize a strengths-based approach that starts with what is strong rather than what is wrong. This strengths based approach stems from my belief that everyone can set and reach goals in their life. My training in social work lends itself to a holistic approach to helping people. Consequently, I seek to treat the whole person: mind, body and spirit. I primarily work with clients ages 14 and up to help individuals and families find solutions that work for them.
