Carol Adams, LCSW, has trained both nationally and internationally in the fields of Trauma, Eating Disorders, Addictions, Women's Issues, and Depression/Anxiety. Emphasis is placed on the connection between mind and body, as physical illness may sometimes be a manifestation of our psychological state.
She integrates mind, body and emotion, so that clients come to experience more harmony and wholeness. In her experience, "we all have within us an enormous potential to heal. We learn to utilize our own inner resources to achieve and maintain a sense of balance, clarity and well-being."

Events, whether negative or positive, can be critical in the lives of many. Existential problems can be seen in loneliness, end-of-life, grief and loss, systemic oppressions or many responsibilities effecting your value system. The religious and spiritual perspective is an important role in the healing process. Many individuals rely on their religion and spirituality during difficult life transitions. Counseling can create a foundation to conceptualize struggles and clarifying values. I’m aware of how prayer can assist with reducing psychological distress.

I'm Ashley Dixon, the face behind Fertile Ground. As someone who's not a big fan of traditional therapy myself, I get where you're coming from. But hear me out—I am not your average therapist. My goal is to help you navigate life's twists and turns without feeling like you're on a Shrink's couch (LOL). Whether it's tackling mental health struggles or sorting out relationship knots, I'm all about empowering you to find your way. No judgment, just a friendly ear and practical guidance. Together, we'll dig deep to uncover what's really going on beneath the surface. Trust me, understanding the why is the first step to finding the how.

Welcome. Thank you for taking the time to check out Welcome Home Wellness - where my primary focus is on you. I believe it is a privilege to help people feeling confused, frustrated, anxious, depressed, or lost in life. I do not take the level of trust and vulnerability it takes to allow someone into your personal life for granted. Creating a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental, and nurturing space where you can heal and grow is what I hope to achieve together. It takes strength and courage to ask for help, and I find it an honor to offer support or a referral to help you navigate your way.

Life problems can create feelings of depression, loneliness, hopelessness, and anxiety. In therapy we explore the reasons for self-defeating behavior. As we become more aware of what we do and why, we can begin to make the necessary changes for a happier, more fulfilling life. Who would you be if you were all that you can be? The ability to be fully yourself, comfortable in your own skin, enjoying your relationships - these possibilities are in you, no matter how great the obstacles you have met in your life. Working together, we will build on your strengths, heal your relationship with yourself, and create lasting change.

My name is Krissy Smith and I'm a LICSW in the State of Alabama. I enjoy working with all ages-children through geriatrics. I like to view therapy as a collaborative approach. I like to use the motto "start where the client is at" to begin the therapeutic process. I do not believe therapy is a "one size fits all" which makes me explore and try new approaches. I would say I primarily engage clients in mindfulness approaches and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have a long background of working in mental health. I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Are you wanting some help for your child - and maybe for yourself as well? Although I also work with adults, my specialty is working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma and anxiety. Everyone can make progress with the right amount of support, guidance, and encouragement. I help children and adults recognize their strengths, make better decisions, and develop healthy relationships with others. "Balance is not something you find, it's something you create." (Jana Kingsford)

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
