Have you received multiple diagnoses from providers but do not understand what they mean or wonder if they are correct? If you are seeking clarity about your symptoms and an individualized treatment plan, now might be the time to consider a psychological assessment. A psychological assessment involves 3+ hours of interview and testing plus 5+ hours of interpretation and feedback. Assessment can get to the root of an issue and narrow in on core issues and strengths, which can be used to improve your therapy and medication plans. Psychological assessment aims to give answers.

We offer ADHD and Autism testing, and are pleased to provide a number of other assessments as needed.
I opened Ofaros because of a passion for helping people to see just how capable they really are. Life is full of hard roads and some of them can break, scar, or cripple us. Our experiences and situations can have enduring impacts on our peace and well-being. And for some, life may bring seasons of sadness, anger, or confusion with no clear cause and often without an easy way forward. My hope is that I can help you find your "brighter way forward" no matter what you've gone through or are currently experiencing. I've had to endure my own hard roads, and I want to walk beside you in yours. - Seth Powell, Owner & Counselor

A famous quote says.... "Life is 10 percent of what happens and 90 percent of how you react to it". What does this mean to you? I believe it means that although some life experiences are out of our control, we hold the power to choose how we navigate through them. As a human being, I understand how life’s challenges can cause doubt, hopelessness, and feeling stuck. As a clinician, I understand the importance of mental wellness, and a safe space to equip you to better handle every aspect of daily living. With 7 years of experience, I've helped empower teens, adults, families and couples to manage and embrace life at its fullness.

PTSD doesn't develop only in those people who have experienced combat. You need a counselor who is aware of the many facets and forms of trauma and how they shape the person you are and how you experience the symptoms of PTSD. Veterans often have difficulty in working with therapists because many therapists have never experienced the military culture and the chaotic world of warfare. Having a therapist who is also a combat veteran enhances client trust, progress, and the working alliance. Having a counselor who is also aware of the trauma of Domestic Violence enhances your progress. I am very sensitive to the needs of PTSD people.

I want to tell you that life is rough! You may feel too tired to get out of bed after not being able to sleep in worry. You look in the mirror in disgust at what you see. Bullies at school are no fun and hurt bad. You feel unappreciated and lost. You may be thinking "why even care?" and can later turn to "I dont care." You feel like you're a burden to friends and family. You wonder why your child has a hard time listening at school or having tantrums at home. You want emotional support from your partner. You want the pain and nightmare to go away. I'm telling you, life is rough, but doesn't have to be for long.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists

What is a psychological evaluation?

A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?

Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?

Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?

Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
