Going to therapy or seeing a couselor does not mean you are crazy! Sometimes parts of your life just do not seem to be working and you need to work out some thoughts or a situation. And that's where therapy comes in. It's a way to work out difficulities you might be having. But it can go deeper than that too. Perhaps you need to talk about a not so good childhood or relationship. Or, you know you get angry, but you don't know how to stop it.

Starting the journey of gaining insight into your life and/or healing through counseling is a very important step in your process. Together, through the work done in therapy, we are able to unmask negativity, the lies hidden in your past determined to frame your future. As you begin to examine your life, counseling will help you uproot feelings of anxiety, attachment issues, depression, disconnection, isolation, rejection, self-doubt, lack of self-confidence, self-worth, suicidal ideation and trauma among any other untruths. "Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out." Proverbs 20:5

I've helped many individuals struggling with issues such as: depression, anxiety, OCD, suicidal ideation, couples and family counseling, panic disorder, grief, trauma, and phase of life transitions.
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I have learned that life is a beautiful, but sometimes difficult journey with many hills and valleys to navigate. We all have the ability to be amazing, but sometimes find ourselves in a position to have to relearn how to tap into our own inner strength and resiliency.

Whether it is trauma, suicide ideation, anxiety, depression, or just life struggles, I would be honored to walk with you through it.
Are you ready for change? Austrian psychiatrist and psychotherapist, Viktor Frankl stated “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves”. I have built most of my work around studying trauma and the effects it has on a human. Trauma defined is an event or circumstance that is beyond a person's ability to cope properly. Many symptoms like anxiety, depression, dissociation, fatigue, and guilt follow trauma. Trauma is scary and I do not believe we were meant to do life alone. I offer to serve as someone who can collaboratively walk through the trauma with you.

Counseling is much more than problem solving. It's an opportunity to acknowledge your strengths and build on them to help prepare for life's challenges, big and small. I believe that first and foremost, successful counseling is built on trust and connection. Many people who struggle are reluctant to reach out. If you are seeking help you've taken an important first step.

“Am I broken?” This is a question that many of us ask ourselves when our lives become filled with suffering. It often arises after an experience leaves us struggling to return to normal or causes chaos to become our new normal. It's something considered after comparing ourselves to the people around us, friends, family, colleagues and seeing our differences. It is something we wonder when unending worry robs our life of joy or when overwhelming sadness and mental fog obscure the possibility of anything better. In actuality we do not break and within our misery we will find the tools needed to build ourselves a life worth living.

Does life sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful? Have you noticed when just one thing in life is out of balance it can spill over into other areas too? This imbalance affects our moods and behaviors, our relationships and interactions with others personally and professionally. This does not just affect adults, it's affecting our youth and our children. The good thing is there is hope and resolution you already have access to, but perhaps haven't been able to tap into.. just yet.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
