Psychodynamic and attachment theories inform the bulk of my therapeutic work.
We all face difficult experiences that can seem unmanageable. You may be struggling with anxiety or depression or with old or new trauma. Perhaps your closest relationships have become a source of stress instead of a source of comfort. Maybe you are experiencing grief and loss. Going through these experiences results in a decline in your general well-being and happiness. My approach offers an in-depth understanding of your struggles to make long lasting changes in your life and relationships.

Everyone needs someone to talk to, someone who will really listen. When you find yourself at one of life's crossroads wondering which way to turn, it helps to have a safe place to talk and a safe person to hear you out. You will find that place here, along with an objective, non-judgmental, professional perspective that the most well-meaning friends and family may not provide. Together we can explore your options, choices, questions, hurts, and strengths in ways you might not have previously considered so that you can continue working through your wounds rather than living them out. Being seen, heard, and understood is healing.

Have you received multiple diagnoses from providers but do not understand what they mean or wonder if they are correct? If you are seeking clarity about your symptoms and an individualized treatment plan, now might be the time to consider a psychological assessment. A psychological assessment involves 3+ hours of interview and testing plus 5+ hours of interpretation and feedback. Assessment can get to the root of an issue and narrow in on core issues and strengths, which can be used to improve your therapy and medication plans. Psychological assessment aims to give answers.

There is no better time than the present to make changes. Are you tired of not making the most of your life? Is parenting, life changes, stress, or negativity making life harder? I sincerely believe that people want to make positive changes in their lives but oftentimes do not know where to start. Because some people may be apprehensive about starting counseling, I work to create an atmosphere that is non-judgmental. In addition, I strive to build a partnership with the client by understanding what they want to work on and how we can tackle that together.

I believe that from the day we are born, to the day we die, we come to know ourselves in and through our most intimate relationships. Hopefully these relationships are life giving, whether they are with our parents, our siblings or our significant partners. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified PBSP Certified Therapist, I am trained to offer my clients the most comprehensive counseling practice available to help them improve their most intimate relationships.

You can improve performance, achieve goals, and feel well, even though you may have doubts. Sometimes you may be unaware of what actually causes you to feel as anxious, depressed, indecisive, guilty, overwhelmed, or angry as you may feel. With stress arising in relationships or work, you may sometimes wonder, "Why is this happening to me again?" I collaborate with my clients to plan strategies to resolve stress so they can feel more in control and confident. I also assist with performance enhancement to foster improvement in public speaking anxiety, social anxiety, test anxiety, work inhibition/procrastination, stage jitters, blocked creativity, etc.

Most of us arrive at times when we can benefit from talking with a knowledgeable person who can listen with the objective of helping us to understand ourselves. My goal as a counselor is to help each person know and accept themselves. When I can provide that kind of counseling relationship, clients are much more likely to find their own strengths and wisdom. By listening with compassion and empathy, rather than judgment, I am more likely to help clients find greater harmony and peace in their relationships.

Do you feel alone? Life can be difficult, and this can leave a person feeling helpless. One may be unable to see things positively and think others do not understand what is happening. This can make you feel alone and misjudged by your loved ones or others. Through therapy, you could walk through life with the possibility of regaining hope and confidence. One of my passions is to help everyone feel empowered to overcome whatever barriers they are going through.

Connecting your subconscious with your conscious is essential in the psychodynamic approach.
Traumatic events or issues with family, relationship and work can lead to depression, chronic anxiety, grief and PTSD. Resultantly, the quality of life deteriorates. Psychotherapy (counseling) enables you to explore your cognitive and emotional sides. It involves connecting your past wounds and present emotions. Psychodynamic therapy enables you to go beyond managing your present emotions and go to the source. I have explored and had many diversified experiences in Spirituality which is important in terms of your present and past experiences. My holistic orientation includes heed to nutrition in all matters related to the MIND-BODY-SPIRIT connection.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
