I was a middle school counselor for five years before entering the world of private practice at my local Christian church where I saw children, adolescents, and adults.
It is my personal belief that everyone can benefit from counseling at some point in their life. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or a life changing event, such as a loss or an empty nest, please know you are not alone. I have experience working with children, adolescents, men and women, of all ages.

I believe we are all born with the innate ability to be great...the greatest version of ourselves. We fall, we fail, but we continue to thrive to be a healthy and productive member of society. With the help of the resources available to us, we choose a goal and work towards it, one step at a time.

In today's society, people feel pressure to choose a side or struggle with what to say. It's hard to determine where you fit in or who to trust. This is not a way to go through life. I help clients decipher what is important and refocus on those things that matter most. While we can't change the world overnight, we can help influence and change our environment and be a positive light to those we encounter. Life is a journey with ups and downs but it's up to us to embrace each day and use it to accomplish something new and choose to see the joy in each moment.

Trauma comes in many ways and brings with it many difficult symptoms. Fear, worry, sadness, and a feeling that you can't cope are just a few. Others don't always understand you or know how to help. This is especially true for parents who want to help their children navigate traumatic experiences but feel helpless to know where to start. There is nothing more frightening than having a child or teen who is struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or suicidal thoughts. Teenagers often feel unheard and parents can feel helpless.

Do you find yourself struggling to find normalcy again after a divorce, bad break-up, unexpected loss or this Covid-19 pandemic? Does your child or teen seem anxious or worried? They may be struggling with perfectionism, with what others think about them, or may be worried about their future. They may be having a hard time sleeping because they just can't seem to turn their brain off at night. Have they lost their spark, seem more moody or irritable, stay in their room too much, and think they can’t do anything right? Your child or teen may be struggling to see the positives in themselves and struggling to manage the emotions that they are feeling. As a parent, you may be at a loss of what to do for your child, having tried everything you can think of.

Welcome! I have been a mental health therapist for 5 years, but I have worked with children and adults for 10+ years. I became a Licensed Master’s Social Worker in July 2018 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in November 2023. I find joy in aiding people in learning about themselves and their emotions, so they are able to function better in the world around them. I am a published author, so I enjoy incorporating writing into my practice, as needed, due to its cathartic nature. I approach therapy with the understanding that each client is different and requires a unique level of care.

Do you feel alone? Life can be difficult, and this can leave a person feeling helpless. One may be unable to see things positively and think others do not understand what is happening. This can make you feel alone and misjudged by your loved ones or others. Through therapy, you could walk through life with the possibility of regaining hope and confidence. One of my passions is to help everyone feel empowered to overcome whatever barriers they are going through.

My passion for counseling comes from the enjoyment of being able to engage the client into sharing their life stories and seeing the positive outcomes of overcoming those issues that are keeping the client from living a fully engaging life. As an experienced counselor, the most rewarding feeling comes from seeing clients transition from emotional and mental anguish into a more peaceful mind and soul. Clients can be assured that they will have a warm, caring, and non-judgmental therapist who will listen and be present with them on their journey to well-being.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
