I have extensive experience working with adolescent and adult clients with eating disorders and other emotional disorders.
Do you constantly reminisce back to a time in your life when things just “felt better?” We as humans tend to avoid things that make us uncomfortable, whether it be conversations, places, or even emotions. My goal as your therapist is to support you while you explore what is presently keeping you from feeling better as we identify and address what's keeping you stuck.

Currently Accepting Clients ( Telehealth Only)-My name is Vanessa Guerero and I am a clinical therapist with Winter to Spring Wellness. Prior to being in Asheville for almost a decade, I originally hail from Miami, Fl. I am a proud daughter of Cuban immigrants and a first-generation college student. As a teen I had my own battles with physical and mental wellness, difficulties with acculturation as well as struggled with cultural stigma in regard to mental health care. Through my own work, I have been able to find healing and am now honored to support others who struggle with their own mental wellness and similar issues.

Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it... We will work together in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to increase understanding of which life choices have been healthy and adaptive, and which ones can be learned from and improved. There are no mistakes, as long as one learns from them.

We all struggle with some degree of anxiety, trauma, some kinds of interpersonal challenges. It really helps to have someone to help us navigate these struggles and build skills. As a therapist, I offer lots of ideas and practices, and the folks who get the most out of our work are willing to try things out on their own. I offer these approaches with kindness, authenticity, and a sense of humor. There’s no reason therapy can’t be fun!

My life's passion is working with women in transitional times of their lives and all young adults and middle-aged adults as they move into new life stages or search for a fulfilling career. I greatly enjoy working with LGTBQIA+ clients and with the Latino and immigrant community, and I am also passionate about working with couples, helping partners improve communication and gain insight into how our pasts affect current relationships. I have a special interest in helping people with relationship issues as well as issues related to break-up and divorce, and I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and parents.

Welcome! What a gift you are giving yourself by seeking out support during this time in your journey! It would be my pleasure to explore whether we share an alignment and safety in doing the hard work of unpacking your concerns and questions. This is a brave step you are taking just by searching. What I have learned is that most of us have an idea about who we are and how our childhood or our lived experiences have shaped us. We also are built with an internal healer. Therapy can be a powerful tool as a kind of emotional sonogram, revealing what can use some attention.

Lemon (therapy assistant pictured in photo) and I are accepting new clients in 2024! I’m not your typical talk-therapist. I am dynamic in the sense that I’ve been trained in many different evidenced-based models, theories, and techniques, but the therapy that I provide derives from what is needed most by the client sitting in front of me. I’m fun, energetic and real. I don’t mind being direct when necessary, and I think it’s okay to sometimes disclose information about myself;after all, the passion and interest that I have for helping others is directly related to my lived experience of trying to ground myself in an unsettled world.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
