I have experience working with parents and caregivers in the perinatal period, adults and adolescents in outpatient facilities and schools, and adolescents in inpatient/residential facilities.
Hi I am Amanda Behrendt, formerly Amanda Crawford. My life's journey has led me here to a career in helping others. I graduated from Montana State University with a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. My ideal client would be an adolescent or an adult who is ready to make changes or a parent/caregiver or soon to be parent who may be struggling with all of the challenges of parenthood. Counseling is a partnership but can only result in growth if the client is ready to make changes and is ready to allow for growth to occur.

My career path to mental health has been a windy road, but the one constant has been my work and engagement with youth and adolescents in a variety of settings.
Let's be honest, most of us wouldn't go back to our adolescent years even if someone paid us to do so. Growing up is hard and life throws a lot at children, teens, and young adults. It is not uncommon to feel many conflicting ways about adolescence (and often times many conflicting ways at once). The things we face as we grow up impact our ability to engage, succeed, and feel accepted in our family life, our friend and peer circles, and in our academic sphere. It is my distinct honor to work with adolescents as they navigate some of the toughest years of life.

Whether you are an individual, couple, family, or teen, reach out to me at Center Counseling to schedule a meeting.
Do you question the relationship you're in? Do you wonder why conflict sometimes feels so difficult? Does it sometimes feel like there are patterns there that you just can't see or understand, but that maybe if you could, they wouldn't have to continue? Sometimes we reach a point where we are ready for change; where what we have been doing in our life and in our relationships, doesn’t feel good anymore. I will help you get clear on what the patterns are AND where they come from and how to shift them.

Currently Accepting New Clients. I believe behavior is communication. Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to understand you, a child, or a teen is communicating. By creating a judgement free space and empowering the client, I aim to engage adults, children, and teens in centering themselves, processing their experiences, and advocating for their needs. I also have experience working with people impacted by disabilities and systemic trauma.

I work with adolescents and adults and have experience with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, relationship concerns, life transitions and identity issues.
People seek therapy for all kinds of reasons. Many are looking for support as they navigate current situations, decisions, and relationships in their lives. Many are looking for change. Change in their internal experience and emotions, change in their pattern of thinking or behavior, or change in their relationships with themselves or others. I enjoy working with clients to understand how their unique experiences have shaped who they are and inform their life in the present.

I have worked extensively with youth, adolescents, and families in Montana providing art and play based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, nervous system work with an emphasis in polyvagal theory, and EFT.
She enjoys bringing humor and laughter into her work as it allows for clients to feel more at ease, build a connection, and find healing. She understands that starting therapy can be daunting and scary, but invites clients to ask questions and be curious about the therapeutic process. She views therapy as a time to support her clients and help them develop new coping skills and tools. She is looking forward to building connections with her clients and providing them a space where their voices can be heard and uplifted, can be seen, and they can be understood.

- now accepting new clients - Here's what I believe: the power of emotions is incredible. They shape our identities, influence how we interact with others and can be the underlying source of ongoing problems. While it may be easier to stay silent or to push our emotions deep down, this does not miraculously “fix” our problems, nor does it allow us to heal. My approach to counseling is to provide a safe environment that allows for emotional exploration and a place to help you better navigate life's challenges. Whether you are dealing with personal, family or relationship problems, you don’t have to face them alone.

I work primarily with adults, adolescents, and families.
My goal as a counselor is to help you feel comfortable to face life's challenges, no matter the circumstances. Therapy can feel like a leap of faith, and I'm here to help create safety. Through this process, you can search for your truest self and honest desires without ever feeling like you're alone. For better or for worse, we live within our own world where we are the center and the focus. Therapy can be difficult. I also believe it can be connective, creative, insightful, and foster immense healing. And the hardest part can be reaching out.

Providence reimagines what traditional therapy looks like for individuals and families. By meeting clients where they are comfortable; be it a local park, fishing, for coffee, via telehealth, taking a walk, or even at the schools, Providence clinicians eliminate some of the barriers to therapy that many clients face. This approach supports individuals in developing new skills for managing emotions, reinforces existing strengths, builds self-confidence, and fosters healthier connections in relationships.

My experience involves working with both adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem, life transitions, and difficult family dynamics.
Are you feeling disconnected from yourself or misunderstood by those around you? Do you find it difficult to cope with the ups and downs of life? As humans we all want to belong and feel truly valued, seen, and supported. Sometimes life leads us to struggle in knowing who we are in order to grow into our full potential. Connecting to the core of who we are can help us to connect with others and feel as though we belong. The counseling space can be a wonderful opportunity to get to know yourself in a supportive and growth fostering environment.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
