I specialize in working with queer and trans people, autistic people, and people with ADHD.
I enjoy helping others find meaningful, authentic ways of connecting in their relationships and communities. Those I work with tend to feel a lack of connection or authenticity in their life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process in which we get to recontextualize our experiences through truthful and empowering reframes. This includes curiosity in how your identity and lived experience has shaped your worldview. I am professionally and personally passionate about geek and gaming culture and am comfortable weaving this into therapy when appropriate. I also work with a lot of young adults in the tech industry.

Are you overwhelmed by life’s struggles, trauma, relationship or attachment issues? Maybe you have been wondering about autism or ADHD as a something you are experiencing? Do you have questions about gender or sexuality, or a general need to examine where you exist within an increasingly challenging society and how you are impacted by it? These are all issues that I enjoy navigating with my clients as we find a new, securely attached, unmasked, and comfortable way of living freely. If you are hurting and do not know where to start I can help. If you feel that you are at the end, we can find a new beginning.

I primarily work with young adults and adults facing challenges with ADHD, anxiety, depression, substance use, chronic pain, and trauma.
As a therapist I believe in a strengths-based approach to counseling in which growth comes from a person's own values, goals, and desire to implement impactful changes in their lives. I also encourage a collaborative approach to therapy – I am simply a guide who has developed an expertise in supporting the goals of my clients or helping them develop goals which feel personally meaningful. Through identity exploration and development, values building, and symptom reduction, my goal is to lend support to an individual's growing sense of competence, confidence, and empowerment.

As a cisgender, queer, able-bodied, white woman with ADHD, I have the honor and privilege to work with all human beings.
Acceptance might be the first step to change, but change is hard. I aim to create a supportive, holistic, empowering, and safe setting to process and understand what is specifically challenging for you. Often, my clients feel like they “don’t belong,” stuck in unwanted behaviors or looking to understand themselves better. I believe by attuning compassionately to our bodies and minds, as well as each other, we can sense what needs to change and heal. Also, I consider myself a very real person in the therapy space, which often includes understanding, laughter, radical acceptance, forgiveness, and open and honest communication.

I work with teens and adults who identify as quirky/nerdy, highly-intelligent, introverted, highly-sensitive, or as having ADHD or Autism (or some combination of these). Those with these traits often share something: a sense of outsider-ship, of not quite belonging. This can lead to loneliness, shame, isolation, depressions, self-loathing--all that fun stuff.  I, myself, have 3 or 4 of the above traits, AND was homeschooled on top of it, so my own sense of outsider-ship was crowned with awkward homeschooler social skills :) Working, both on self-acceptance, and feeling like I belong, is something I enjoy sharing with my clients.

I have particular experience in ADHD (having lived and effectively coped with it for the better part of my life).
I am a licensed psychotherapist with an office in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. I have a masters in counseling psychology from Regis University in Denver and over 20 years of professional experience. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, LGBTQ and ADHD issues. I work with couples, individuals, and parents and their children. I draw on a number of schools of thinking, including existential, interpersonal, client-centered, cognitive and humanistic. Put simply, I see my job as helping my clients gain access to resources they already have within them - so they can grow into the people they want to be.

Some treatments I specialize in are: diagnosing and management of ADHD, exposure-response prevention (ERP) for OCD, CBT for anxiety and depression, and FBT for anorexia.
My passion is working with adolescents, families and adults who are looking to learn new skills to use in their lives. We'd be a good fit if you're looking for someone who teaches skills and strategies to use when encountering difficulties. Often people will encounter times where they struggle and don't have the skills to manage current stressors or problem. I’m here to offer you support and techniques that have shown to be effective in helping with these problems. Working with me involves learning more about what makes situations difficult (what's the specific problem) and applying new skills.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
