Since entering the field of Social Work over 30 years ago, I have had the pleasure of working with individuals and couples through both the private and public sectors who are experiencing work or school stress, interpersonal or relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, mood disorders, ADHD, caregiver stress and trauma related challenges.
I am a strengths-based clinician providing a compassionate and non-judgmental culture of care for the treatment of anxiety and depression often associated with the challenges of daily life. My practice is based on the fundamental belief that all individuals deserve to feel respected, accepted and "heard." As such, my clinical approach to therapy is client centered and starts with building a trusting relationship so that we may work together to help you attain the quality of life that you desire. To move forward in the direction we want to go takes only one small manageable step to get started. Therapy will then move at your own pace

You are a fascinating being with valuable gifts to share. Unfortunately, it's hard for you to feel this way when you are overwhelmed by stress, consumed by worries, dampened with depression, feel scattered, or have painful memories you've been carrying for years. Under such circumstances it's easy to feel despair, hope seems so far out of reach. Therapy may not be easy work, but with dedication, persistance and the right guidance and support - change does happen. It can happen for you, too.

Life will bring challenges, however, I believe therapy can ease the suffering and help connect us to the best version of ourselves. It doesn't have to be this hard and you don't have to hurt this badly. Everyone has a light inside of them, that with the right support and resources, can shine brighter and brighter. I would be honored to help your light shine. You are never too young or too old to begin taking steps to break down the barriers that are holding you back from connection and a sense of thriving. I approach therapy with realness, authenticity, and humor. I am interactive in therapy sessions and solutions-focused.

I became a therapist years ago with the thought that I may be able to have some small part in other people's journey in a way that was helpful, supportive, and encouraging. I try my absolute best to do that every day and for every client. I believe that therapy is a facilitative process with no one being the expert on how to live your life better than you. My role is to help you find the best version of yourself and work with you so you may become that self. Additionally, I work from an integrative approach (when desired by the client) to use nutrition, physical health, and holistic approaches to help heal from the inside out.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
