I have advanced training and years of experience helping those with substance abuse problems as well as identifying and dealing with the underlying issues that may drive the behaviors. Addictions often go hand in hand with other mental illnesses such as depression, trauma, anxiety, ADHD and bipolar illness. I also have advanced training in ADHD. My methods are non-judgmental and generally holistic, but I know enough about medications to be able to recommend when they may be needed. Life can lead us anywhere and it is my mission to make that a happier place for us all.

Please note: VERY limited availability at this time. I work with adult clients who want to use expressive arts therapy and therapeutic humor in addition to traditional talk therapy to help overcome the obstacles that are keeping them from living their best life. This approach can benefit those who have experienced trauma, are struggling with depression, or anxiety, or would like a new way of coping with ADHD. No need to be an artist to reap the many benefits of expressive arts therapy!

My specific areas of interest include: eating disorders, ADHD, anxiety and depression, role/life transitions and identity concerns, and developmental trauma.
As inherently social beings, I believe that we learn to love and accept ourselves, gain self awareness, and form a strong self-concept through our connections with others. As such, I consider the psychotherapeutic relationship and process to be of vital importance in working through any barrier that holds us back from enjoying a meaningful and fulfilling life. True healing happens in connection with others through trust, vulnerability and being seen and accepted for who we are at our core. It’s not about changing who we are but about learning how to use our inherent strengths to care for ourselves and reach our full potential.

Let's explore what ADHD means to you, noticing how it’s shaped your life.
Do you have moments of brilliance but feel like you can never quite get it together? You work so hard to stay organized, but always feel like you’re drowning. You’ve got so many unanswered emails that you’ve stopped checking your inbox, and you can’t remember the last time that your to-do list didn’t fill you with dread and guilt. You know that ADHD plays a role in this, but you can’t slow down long enough to figure out how. For years, you’ve been thinking about getting support, but something always gets in the way. You wonder if working with the right therapist would help you get rid of this sense of never being enough.

Are your child's ADHD symptoms causing them to feel overwhelmed, ashamed, or not "good enough"? Is depression or anxiety weighing your child down? Is your teen afraid to make friends, try new things, or go to school? Does your child appear to be unmotivated to do schoolwork? Do you feel like your teen just can't seem to get stuff done? I have worked with many teens, young adults, and families who have experienced these same problems, and are surprised and relieved when they see how these challenges really can shift.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
