If you feel seen (or attacked) by reading my profile, I think it is worth exploring this ADHD stuff a little further! Schedule a FREE 15 minute consultation with me using my website link and lets see if we are a good fit :).
You're moving through life with the sense that everyday stuff is more difficult for you than it is for everyone else. Staying on top of laundry, dishes, eating real food three times a day, and going to bed on time, work...it seems impossible. Despite all this, you can often “get it together” when you need to, even if at the last possible minute. When you try to talk to others about these issues, they just don’t get it. What if there is a valid reason why life always feels like an uphill battle, and the reason isn't that you're just "lazy"?

In addition to being adhd/audhd/neurodivergent/neurospicy, my clients are often queer, BIPOC and poly.
We are called to an authentic life. One where we honor how our adhd brains work instead of forcing our square peg brains into another round hole. I’ve discovered the magic of working with my brain instead of against it. I want to help you do the same. Much of what I learned in grad school doesn’t work for us. My clients are encouraged to show up authentically, even if that’s in pajamas. I’m a pajama forward therapist! I use therapy techniques designed for us including Internal Family Systems (IFS). They get us to the deep work and root of the issues. Take my hand and I’ll journey along side you.

My areas of focus include psychological assessment, counseling therapy with pediatric, adolescent and adult clients, and African American psychology for clients with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, blended families, and military or veteran related stressors.
Hi! In a world where so many of us regularly get the message that we are flawed, I think it is important to start by saying something that we might not hear so regularly, which is, that it is okay to be you. But if I’m being honest, being yourself is not always an easy thing to do. As a therapist, I place priority in creating a therapy environment where clients feel safe to share the most authentic versions of themselves without fear of judgement. In addition to a safe therapeutic space, my goal is to assist clients on their paths towards self-expression and self-acceptance no matter where they are in their journey.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
