Waitlist for new clients
I have worked in many areas, especially addictions counseling, and I know the places of addiction, abuse and loss have often been the source of hope for my clients.
My clients come from a variety of backgrounds and ages seeking healing and understanding of their relationships and meaning in life. Some suffer from substance addiction, others from work stress, and many from wounded relationships in their family. Their goals are redemption of their suffering, building new ways of relating to others and clearing the pain of the past from clouding the joy of the present. I am licensed in Washington and Idaho.

Changes and transitions are hard for all of us. Sometimes they can be great things like a new job, relationship or family member and other times they are hard changes like a death or the loss of something important to us. Other times they are the result of a trauma that may be recent or may have happened a while ago. I have several years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, families and couples adapt creatively to these transitions in order to help them become the person they were created to be.

I have experience working with teenagers, adults, and families around substance use concerns.
I specialize in working with people who are struggling with substance use concerns and problems related to past traumatic events. I also see clients for problems related to depression, anxiety, divorce, and other concerns. With all clients, I maintain a "systemic" view: that is, understanding your concerns, and their solutions, in their context. For most, context includes your family, work, cultural values, spiritual beliefs (or lack of), and individual history.

Are you feeling lost or stuck? As is life is passing you by? Bothered by old memories? I work with people everyday who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, identity confusion, relationship problems, or feel like their emotions are out of control. The first call for help might seem intimidating. But, once you make it you'll know you've taken the first step toward feeling better. Growth and change is often difficult and painful, but the pain and fear you're feeling is probably worse. I will provide you with non-judgmental support and careful guidance through this process.

I have had anxiety, addiction, and chronic pain touch my life and I am really excited to help people get free from any of these.
It is tough times right now! People are struggling. I am here to give you the tools to feel better and to heal whatever you have gone through. I help people work through addiction recovery, anxiety, depression and difficult relationships. Having a strength-based approach that focuses on wellness and getting unstuck from repeating cycles is the approach I take. I work with anxiety, OCD, depression, addiction (alcohol, sexual, drug, spending, overeating, and work). I also work with chronic pain issues from a place of helping people express emotion. I do both in person and teleconferencing counseling at this time.

This mind, body, emotions, and spirit approach educates participants on how to become their own counselor with an array of simple-to-use approaches all geared to address core issues at the root of mood disorders and addiction.
If we don’t have the tools to address our fear, our grief, our deep hurt - it emerges as depression, anxiety, resentment, hate, chronic pain, or compulsive, habitual patterns. My motto is: “When we apply love to hurt we heal” I listen to your needs with respect and empathy as we explore heart-centered solutions. This approach uses both evidence-based clinical psychological approaches and Spirituality. It is NOT associated with any religion. I also utilize hypnosis, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming, relaxation techniques, and a client-centered to discover and unlock the keys to re-discovery that work for YOU!

Maybe you already know you have a problem with alcohol or drugs, or maybe someone else thinks so. I start by asking what you think. The question is not what label to give you, but what, if anything, you might be considering changing. You might be surprised to hear me ask what is good about your use. What are your reasons to keep doing what you already do? And then we can look at what is not so good about it, from your point of view. No change is going to happen that does not make sense to you.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
