I am Abby Atkins and am a licensed clinical psychologist who is licensed in Arizona. I have been working in the counseling field since 1987. My approach is to listen to the client's current concern and work on that issue from a variety of approaches. I am also a Board-Certified Chaplain who works with grief and adjustment to new diagnoses. I use an eclectic approach that tries to integrate the whole person (mind, body and spirit). I am very person centered and functional.
I believe that the client is in charge and determines the frequency of visits and how often they wish to practice techniques that have been introduced in the session. Since I am only doing telehealth, I prefer to work with adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression. I also help with adjustment to changes in one's life circumstance.
I let the client lead where they would like to go in terms of what they want addressed during the session. I find that discussing what is most pressing at the time allows the individual to feel that they are heard and valued.
