First of all, I am a Veteran. I have most likely had similar experiences to what you are going through right now. If you want to talk with someone who has experienced similar situations and has the advanced training to help you with your situation, I believe we can get your course corrected to reach your goals. I primarily work with Veterans, Military, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and other Frontline workers. That's why Frontline Counseling was created.

Some days, maybe even most days, you feel at war with yourself. You burn through all of your mental (and physical) energy just by convincing yourself to do the tasks that make you a “productive” person. Some days, you win that war and accomplish what you wanted; other days, you feel like you lost it and beat yourself up for not doing better. You may not know where to start because everything feels overwhelming and maybe failure feels inevitable.

Change is inevitable and life is unpredictable- two guaranteed discomforts in life. Whether caused by unexpected and unforeseen circumstances or recurring throughout your life, such great discomfort can be trying on anyone’s well-being. Hardships and traumas do not discriminate and can affect all humans, causing us distress within our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual parts. I believe therapy is a place to heal our wounds; to learn how to cope with life stressors and find ways to self-soothe; and to have a non-judgmental space held by someone who can provide safety and security. You do not have to do this alone.

It takes courage to seek help and examine yourself, and finding the therapist that matches your style and needs is an important part of that process. My style is warm, active, and I will help you to challenge yourself in a safe and supportive environment. Humor also is important to me, so be prepared to incorporate some levity during our meetings as well.

About 1 out of 7 youth in the U.S. have a treatable mental health disorder. If you are a parent who is struggling to support your child or teen, it is not too late to reach out for help. Maybe you have noticed your child being more distant or jumpy. Maybe you have seen a change in how they spend their time, or their grades are slipping. Many families have found it difficult to adjust during the pandemic. Helping children and families get back to or accept their new "normal" is what I'm good at.

At Muddy Lotus Wellness & Therapy I believe in the power of metaphor and symbolism to make sense of life. Just as a lotus flower uses mud to grow, we as individuals are capable of using the mud to flourish as well. It's my hope that I can provide an environment where you feel safe and heard so you can grow, dream and heal. I identify with what Carl R. Rogers said. “The gentle and sensitive companionship of an empathic stance… provides illumination and healing. In such situations deep understanding is, I believe, the most precious gift one can give to another.”

I enjoy working with individual adults and teens through a systemic and relational lens. I work with adults to build and strengthen a deeper sense of self by exploring who we are in our relationship with self and others. I am interested in working with couples to build more closeness and safety through an emotionally focused approach to help strengthen the bond and consequently felt security and intimacy in that relationship. I also offer walk & talk, as well as other movement based therapies to help incorporate our bodies in the healing process.

I believe that every family has their own unique story. Many times, the families we work with see the stories of their lives as destructive or not beneficial for their goals. By deconstructing the problem to find the dominant narrative, we can begin to broaden the view of the story to reveal unique outcomes. We will then create goals to increase the frequency of those outcomes; making them to be not so unique but benefiting factors in your life.

I enjoy helping individuals work through their issues by processing their trauma. When a person resolves their trauma the rest of their issues in life usually go away. I believe in a strong collaborative relationship with my client. You are in charge of your recovery. My hope is for you to be able to look at your past and present in order to help you identify how they have both helped you and gotten in the way of you being able to achieve your goals in relationships and in life. Connecting the dots from your past experiences to what is currently going on in your life is a strong motivator for change

Parenting is hard. Like, really REALLY hard. I know we've all been there....feeling isolated, alone, and like we are failing ourselves and our children. But if you are here now, reading this, you are actively looking for new ways to parent and interact with your children. And that's huge! We know through decades of research that caregiver/parent self-reflection is the single greatest catalyst for positive change, in addition to feeling connected to and supported by others. That is where Circle of Security Parenting comes in! Learning how to identify and meet the emotional needs of our children, while staying balanced ourselves.

I love helping people find and identify the different parts of themselves and how they present different roles and faces depending upon the situation or environment. I enjoy providing space for learning how to mesh these roles and faces together to create who the person is and how to be comfortable with that. The more we understand the parts of ourselves and know who we are, the more we know how to cope with life and what life throws at us, the more we understand to adapt, grow, and heal. This helps us understand and honor ourselves better. I’d love to be able to help you identify who you are, so you can be who you want to be.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
